1835 in a squadron

Greetings,

I am a junior 1835, and wondering if there are ever any opportunities for Intel to get orders with a reserve squadron. For reference, I was a prior AM2 on active duty before cross rating to IS and the eventually commissioning and while not a great mechanic I did enjoy being in a squadron. The people and atmosphere created a different work environment of a blue collar let's get stuff done. I know there is stuff in Fallon but I don't think that is being an actual part a squadron but more from outside support. I'm on the East Coast so Oceana or Jax would be ideal. I just have yet to see anything like that in JO apply.

Thanks for the help.

Lots of resources you can use here:
1. You can search/browse billets on JO Apply.
2. Usually the community will have its own excel sheet of billets.

Lastly, do you have an 1835 mentor? If not, strongly encourage finding some senior officers in the community to help you out.

Hey Sir,

Great questions as always.
1. None on JO apply that I have seen in the last couple of years.
2. No idea about this but I may just reach out to some of the squadrons and ask.

Lastly, yes I have a mentor. There isn't a lot of knowledge about opportunities in aviation for Intel in most reserve units. I know they would need briefers, planners and sec managers but that may just be collaterals for their pilots.

This being an aviation oriented forum it seemed like a decent knowledge base to reach into. Thanks for the help.

I’m pretty sure that VAQ-209 up in Whidbey has an Intel O, as they and the P-8 reserve squadrons are some of the only deployable reserve units. You could try cold-calling them to ask. I know Whidbey is outside of your preferred area by far, but it can’t hurt to explore it. Otherwise the east coast VP squadron (VP-62) may be your best bet.

Edit: confirmed with a friend who was recently in 209 that they do have a reservist Intel O billet, and that they may be looking for a new Intel O. I’ll PM you contact details.

@devilbones beat me to the punch. You can view total billets including those not advertised that way.

Thank you for the information, I will give that a try. I was pretty handy with MNA as enlisted but I am still learning the nuances of JOAPPLY.

If anyone has seen Intel folks in a reserve squadron of some type, were they kept pretty busy and if worth their salt were they able to give useful information to the pilots and airwing when needed? I want to have the opportunity to help out as much as I can, maybe get my PC qual again on the side.
