Man. I used to think the same thing. "If I get picked up to be a pilot, I better learn how to fly and get as much sim time as I can!" lol wrong. Learn Bravo. Learn Charlie. Learn the entire OCR if you can. Learn ditties. Learn how to fold your bed with hospital corners...how to shine boots...LEARN CHOW HALL PROCEDURES!
With how much time I'm going to be waiting to potentially ship (a year plus at this point) I think I have time for all the above. If I was short on time you're absolutely right however.

Hey guys long time lurker, first time poster. I was wondering how y'all got LORs. I haven't yet started the process (I'm waiting to graduate college in June of 23) and I don't really know how to network into the community. Do you guys have any tips?
I had my professor who was also graduate director of the program and on my committee for my masters thesis. I worked with him using drones and aerial imagery analysis for two years. So I figured he knows how I am working on projects and in a class room everyday for two years. My recruiter told me pick someone who knew me well so I did that. Like my recruiter he had someone who got picked up before with a LOR from their manager at subway. So truly lol I think it’s how well you also know this person and how well of a LOR they will write.

I have three people lined up for LORs right now. A long time family friend that worked a long successful career for the state department, a relative of my wife who was an army officer and also was fairly high up in the state department, and my previous boss/business partner that I worked with when I was the regional director of a music school. None of them are connected to aviation or the Navy. I potentially have a couple of contacts with retired aviation officers, but I don't know them personally. Would it be worth it to reach out through the mutual contact on those or are they not worth much due to the lack of long term personal relationship?

Can't build a relationship until you try ??‍♂️ start calling them every other week just to talk.
