Got it. I honestly thought that was the case but the last few posts from this forum tended to almost differentiate between the two so I figured I’d ask for us civilians who may be wondering lol.
Regardless, the experience with my NC1 has been interesting.

Yeah I just grew up in a Navy family... I've always been told that Officers who end up in recruiting generally had a career slip up or injury in the fleet, but recruiting was a perfectly viable enlisted rate on the other hand. Curious to hear other people weigh in on that, but it's been pretty true to life in my own limited experience

I’ve heard that myself and haven’t been around too many navy guys growing up…

that being said it has to be the hell out of working in insurance…trust me lol

The OR out of Garden City was an O-4 SWO but he's finished up his tour, an O-3 NFO is taking over. There's also an NC1 working on the officer applications.

Yoo from the same area! Didnt know the other guy was an NFO. The previous OR passed me on the NC1 as my main contact. Woulda been cool if he left me with the NFO since thats what I’m trying for.

It depends, if they are HR that is where they should be, if they are going to go there for CO or XO that are non-HR they screened for command in some way.

If they are there as SWO, aviation, or sub it is not a normal path, in regards to sub or SWO-N it probably means they didn't pass their Engineers exam the first time around.

I’m sure helping young men and women join the Navy as officers and follow their dreams would be a lot of fun too. I wouldn’t mind going this route once I have some little ones running around.

LOL, well if you are doing well it isn't bad, if you are behind you are managed like a teenager who can't attend class or do homework, as an example imagine an O-3 having to meet and explain how he spent the past week hour by hour, and what you are planning for next week hour by hour.

I have a question for y’all. Anyone have an enlisted OR? The Nuclear recruiter in the office I use is an E-5. I found that really bizarre.

Mine is an E-5 as well. Only Officer in the recruiting office is a LT that does nuke stuff

Petty Officers E4-E6 can be called by whatever their rate is and then the corresponding number... So a Petty Officer 3rd Class who is a Boatswains Mate might be called "BM3" when he's an E4 whereas a Petty Officer 1st Class who is a recruiter would be called an "NC1" when he's an E6

Also, E1-E3 you can always call by the same term.....”hey GUY (holding knife hand)”

So my recruiter is an LDO and this is his retirement tour. Which makes more sense.

This guy being an LDO makes him a great resource, I can get his experience as a JO, his take on what chiefs want from a JO and how to be the best JO towards the junior enlisted since he’s been all three, and he’s happy to have these discussions with me. Overall he’s a pretty cool guy and a great resource.

Fair perspective, I'm sure there's plenty of good and bad everywhere. Glad my experience has been solid with my actual recruiter - the BUMED bureaucracy personally gave me the biggest headache

The battle of MEPs bureaucracy and my NTAG’s bureaucracy that my recruiter has navigated and helped me through is stunning and kind of sad. I missed a board because a signature for my packet was sat on for no reason. I feel like there are decent ORs like mine that have to fight a battle against the bureaucracy.
