Oh I totally get it, but when I see someone say "Just went out and ran for the first time in forever, did a 7:30 pace for four miles", I'm sitting here reading it like.... How? I'm a comfortable ~10:30 per mile pace but that's not enough to pass the test in the 30-35 category so I'm out here running 3x a week doing intervals and whatever else to get my pace increased. Being able to go out and pass the PRT without run training is mind-blowing to me lol.

I think I just need to get used to not being able to breath very well while I run lol. I hate running and feeling like I'm about to run out of air. It probably doesn't help I'm running at 5,000ft on a route with constant little hills.
I've noted those posts as well haha. The explanation is either (i) they are natural freaks of runners, and I've know a couple or (ii) they are running those things at max effort which is something regular runners don't do often because it sucks a lot. If you run 3/4x a week its counterproductive to go at max effort the whole time.

My buddy goes only slow and long and has made ridiculous progress in one year. 5k in 20min while still conversational and then turns it up if need be.

Actually, at 5’5 I’d say once you’re at sea level your time would go down significantly, no? More oxygen available = run faster
Can confirm this is true, but don't spend more than 1 week off that mountain because you will reverse acclimate fast.

If you are sorted physically you can spend more time actually lucidly taking in information rather than having your body and brain in a fog due to fatigue.
Good point, I haven’t stopped running to see how my body feels. Wonder what it’ll feel like when I go cold turkey for a bit on the running. I feel fine and nothing hurts or bothers me. I just wanna achieve my goal of running a year straight.

That just means your body is properly adapted to your mileage. The pain only comes in if you abruptly increase after a period of inactivity. How far are you into the year man? That's a cool goal.

How are the northern state people running right now? I don’t have a treadmill and the sidewalks are completely iced. I’m terrified of just eating It on the concrete. I feel like OCS will be the same if you go around this time. Do you just risk It?

I’m in Colorado, and I run in everything. Main thing is get some good trail shoes for the snowy icy days. Maybe the peregrine + ice. I also have a pair of cheap Nike trail shoes that I put screws in the bottom for better traction.

I live in Northern Massachusetts....I go running at 5 am, in the middle of the street, literally in the middle of the street, cuz its covered in snow/ice on the sidewalks, at this time there's almost no cars going around, so its easier......the cold tho, oh boy that's a different story

I like the old movie scenes where someone pulls out a couple glasses, one for himself and one for his friend and pours some expensive drink. Seems like my idea of "high society", I've always wanted that whole setup.

Unfortunately, I can't stand the taste of alcohol, I'm probably an odd ball when it comes to disliking it so strongly that I choose to avoid it. My idea of a fancy drink is a 32oz Mt Dew from 7 Eleven that I sip slowly through an afternoon. I've cut soda out of my diet but I reward myself once a month for completing a months worth of scheduled runs lol.

I was looking forward to a civilian job where after work we could open up the desk, pull out a few glasses, pour some whisky and talk about the day, however what I learned from my HR Manager that is "not appropriate".
