There may be some hope! It worked for these guys: SS United States Conservancy !!

Here's one ship, berthed in Philly, destined for the scrap yards, (which although notable, I consider to be much less so than Olympia) that was saved by a concerted PR/fundraising campaign. SS United States saved by private donors.

That's awesome news! She is in pretty sad shape though, so I'll be interested to see what their budget to convert her is. It's bound to be much more expensive than Olympia's restoration would be.
