A neat place to shoot near Pensacola

I picked up my ERML membership about a week ago. It's better than Santa Rosa sporting clays, but you have to make your own target stand. The soil is really hard clay, so making something that pounds into the dirt doesn't work. I used a couple 2x4s and a 4x3 piece of plywood.

Good on you for not being lazy and just whacking holes in the mud.

actually, no. It is cheaper in the long run and it is worth it to shoot around folks who actually practice the safety rules. Barrels have been swept across me many times at the public range. Plus, at ERML I swear I spent more time shooting other members' firearms than my own!

Pet peeve of mine. I let it go the first time, say something the second, and go batshit crazy the third. I'm heading to the public range today methinks, I'll report back on how it is.

I've spent a fair amount of time at both ranges, my personal opinion is that the ERML one is much safer. The folks there take the rules very seriously. You'll also see a larger array of firearms!

So you have to build it at home and bring it with you every time?

Correct. Mine took about 15 minutes to make including cutting the wood and nailing it together. It just barely fits in my car though. (I have a station wagon... if you have a sedan, you'll have to plan accordingly in your construction.) I was going to spend a good portion of today at the range, but apparently the weather had other ideas.

Here's a pic of my target stand:

I usually go batshit crazy the first time! Gotta love military ranges.

When you say the public range are you talking about a range we can shoot at on base?

The "public range" is Santa Rosa Sporting Clays on Quintette RD. They are $11 a day and have pistol, rifle, and shotgun ranges. The "private" range is ERML which is another couple of miles down the road. If you are going to be in Pcola for a while, or planon going to the range at least 7 times in the near future, go to ERML.
