Active Duty to OCS

Coldnavy

CTO1 to IW Officer
Good points, but from the two examples of questions in this board, it sounds like the Chiefs were just hating more than anything else.

This was a major concern of mine. I didn't want to be put into a position to defend "Why I want to be an Officer" vice a Chief, in the sense of me turning my back on the Enlisted Community. To my surprise, the Chief's where 100% for me in my pursuit to seek a commission.

Corry Station is a unique entity in the Navy. Unlike any thing I have seen in my nine years in the Navy. The CO here puts a lot of weight on the Mess and rightfully so. The Chief Board aside, I used it as good practice for the two boards and CO interview I have in front of me.

Oh well, we'll see

This may sound like a ignorant question but I'm wrapping up my package and have one main question - Who should do my appraisals and who should do my letters of rec??? I'm hearing so many different things but the problem I'm running into is that, everyone in my command are LDOs so they don't know the OCS process. Anyone have any suggestions?? I've heard to have your letters of rec from people in the community of which you are applying for. If that's the case, then the board (appraisals) could be chaired by the same designator but have others on it? HELP! Please. I'm not getting ANYTHING from my command.

I only had a letter of Recommendation from my CO. Other than that there is plenty of room on the appraisal sheet for a short letter of recommendation. say so he gave me a separate letter of with his letter head on it that went behind his appraisal sheet.

This helps. Mostly because, the people on the selection board will know more about an admiral or captain from their field. In my case the 1800's are such a small community anyway that they definitely know each other. I think you are going to want one from outside of your community too. This shows that you did not just pick officers that know you and you had to do a hard interview. In reality just ask someone in your chain of command if they know someone (high rank) from a different community who would give you a recommendation.

I just got picked up and I am in Va Beach too if you need any help.

I submitted my package back in Dec. You only need to have 3 interviews, LORs are optional. I had 3 interviews, all 3 were pilots at my command. I did however, add a few LORs. I hope that helped. If you have any questions you should look into the 1420.1A.
