Air vs Ground Contract and Age

Is it possible to go with a Ground contract at age 29 or 30 and then compete for an Air contract after TBS? I realize it would be necessary to pass a flight physical and such. This seems like it might be the only option for someone who is older than the typical air applicant. Of course, it isn't necessarily easy to go Ground right now anyway. Any one have any info or examples of this happening?
Thank you.

I don't even think Devry is an acceptable degree for the Corps.

Now you're getting personal! Nothing wrong with a BS in Gunsmithing from Devry!! Heck, if all else fails, I could work in the Armory and fix all the SAW's.

E5B- I was a hawaii guy, spent almost all my time @ Kaneohe bay. 53/D although I did my training on Es @ tustin. I knew several guys from the west coast.
Actually there are not many 53 crewchiefs (6173), I think around 200, so if you are asking about someone in particular, I probably know them or know someone who does. I also did 4 Cax and 3 MATWS exercies where I would always run into people I knew from somewhere.

Looking back, the air wing is a pretty small community Marine Corp wide. Makes me think of SSgt Kendal Damon who died in a 46 "frog" crash last march in Iraq, I remember horseplaying w/ him on the tarmack @ 29 palms when we were both corporal's in 97' God bless him & all those who gave it all.

Good luck to u E5B.

For anyone who still cares. . .

About this topic.

I had a buddy in my OCC class (169), who was a former Corporal (he'd been out of active duty for several years), was 32 at the time of OCS and was a flight contract!

That was a few years back, now of course it's more competitive to get into OCS with the high retention rates nowadays.

But anyways it's still worth a shot since you're prior active duty (if you weren't, then you'd probably be SOL).

Spin is in TBS right now with a pilot contract and an age waiver. He was not a prior. Talk to him. He got it. You never know. If that OSO is giving a hard time, and you want it that bad, pick another OSO and go through them. Go into Jersey, or if you have family somewhere else in the country, go to an OSO near them. Manhattan might be more competitive due to the amount of slots they receive, then go elsewhere. Thats what I plan to do. Thats what the Col. at TBS told me to do.

Thats right ... I was 28 when I got my waiver. Just turned 20 a few weeks ago and I'm currently at TBS. My advice is to apply and what happens happens. You will never know unless u try.

Peace,
