AFROTC to x commision to USMC as pilot question

Yeah, I should have specified. NROTC. USN. USMC. ENTIRELY separate programs from Army ROTC and AFROTC.

I have NEVER, EVER, seen or heard of a non-naval service cross commission with regards to NROTC. The closest was a Marine Option senior, OCS complete, who wanted an Intel slot bad enough to jump ship to the Navy when it didn't pan out with the USMC.

first what is an OSO...Why did you go to OCS if you did PLC?

OSO= Officer Selection Office/Officer

PLC is OCS, just in the summertime. You can do two 6 wk summer sessions or one ten week summer. Sounds like you'd be a ten weeker.

Sounds like he would need to apply for OCC, since he is graduating next spring. Ten weeks of OCS, 6 months of TBS, then flight school. I know of a senior who got out of AFROTC the summer right before her senior year and is at OCS right now. She said that the Air Force is trying to cut back so much, that they were letting seniors go if they wanted to, even if they were on scholarship, no matter what AFSC they had selected, and they didn't have to pay anything back. If you can get out of AFROTC with no problem, then there is nothing stopping you from applying and getting accepted by the OCC program. You can get a guaranteed pilot slot with the Marines by going this route. Good luck!

Similar Situation

I actually had some questions about a similar situation. Right now I am an AFROTC cadet at my university. I'll be starting my sophomore year soon, but what I really want to do is commission in the USN. It seems like getting spots for AOCS is tough to do, and am mostly interested in NROTC. I know you can do the cross-town program if you go to a school that doesnt have NROTC but is close to one. My school isn't listed as a cross-town school for the nearest unit, but I was wondering if there was any way, as long as the unit had my transcripts and I could drive over for class and drill, that I could do the same type of thing from my current school?

yeah, my fault. just found that out in my ongoing research. like i said, my first priority is to try to find a way to get into an NROTC unit, and i haven't paid much attention to the OCS route at all

So the way I understand this, other than OCS I have two options that I'm not at all sure are possible. 1- possibly attend NROTC as a cross-town student from a school that isn't listed officially as a cross-town school, or 2- remain in AFROTC and somehow commission into the Navy anyway. does anyone have any info on whether either/both of these is actually possible and, if so, how to get started. other than that I guess my choices would be transferring to an NROTC school, BDCP or graduate and apply to OCS? Everyone on the site has already been a weath of helpful knowledge, and I'd really appreciate anything anyone could tell me about this position.

Neither had I until today, on a different site along the same lines as this. I knew you could cross-commission out of the federal academies, but hadn't heard of it out of ROTC and was wondering if anyone knew if it was legitimate. Still looking for any information about how strict the cross-town program is as far as it being a listed cross-town school.

Explain the specifics of the situation you're referring to.

Not sure which situation you mean. Here's the layout though: I'm entering my sophomore year in AFROTC, but am looking for a way to commission in the Navy. My doesn't have NROTC or I'd already be there. I'm not on scholarship, so I'm not contracted to the AF yet and am looking for options before that comes. I know you can cross-commission upon graduating from an Academy and wondering if there's any similar program out of ROTC (which seems like there isn't). If not, I know that most NROTC units have other schools in the area that students can go to and enroll in the ROTC unit at that school while actually getting their degree from another school. I'm trying ot find out if I can attend NROTC at a school which has it (BU and Holy Cross are the closest) as a student at UCONN, even though UCONN isn't listed as a cross-town school (assuming all the proper arrangements were made regarding my transcripts and grades, etc. If that isn't an option either, that leaves me with the choice of: transferring to a school with NROTC, OCS, or BDCP correct?

The three options you end your post with are what you have to work with.

By "specifics" I meant the story you heard about doing AFROTC and commissioning into the USN.

Thanks for your patience and help zab. So no-go on the cross-town thing? I'll be in touch with the PNSs at both schools to confirm, just looking for some heads-up info. As for cross-commissioning, I haven't heard anything specifically about AF to Navy, just that it could be done ("I knew a guy whose cousin knew a guy..." stuff mostly) from other forums.

Cross town, hey, I have no idea regarding that, ask the PNS.

I don't buy the cross-commission. I don't see how it's possible without taking the NAVSCI courses and/or a stint at NSI.

Waiting for a reply from PNS at both schools hopefully this week. I was pretty skeptical of the cross-commission too, that's why I asked a group that knows a lot more than me. Thanks again for the help.
