So I was pro- rec for NFO/ SWO back in November. I got a no for SNA for poor depth perception. I was enlisting at the time I went to MEPS and felt a little rushed through the eye exam, 45 seconds in the chair max. So I went to civilian doctor, got the required waiver, and missed the December board. (Only did this because I was under the impression my NFO pro rec would be intact)

So my nerves are going crazy right now because I turn 27 on August 11th. I'm afraid I may have shot myself in the foot by not accepting NFO when I had it. I wish things were explained to me better, or I would have accepted it back in November.

I was looking for some info as to what people think my chances are of getting in? I asked my OR and he simply stated that the board has that info and will be factoring it into their decision.

Anyone have any close calls like mine?

I'm sure I'll enjoy SWO, but it's heart breaking because I was really looking forward to an aviation career.

Thanks guys and girls!

Did N3M clear your depth perception?

you have a chance to make it in time, you just need to be in OCS by August.

He would have to make it by summer, actually. You have to commission by 27. A classmate of mine got stuck in student pool post graduation for a minor surgery, and by the time he was ready to be cleared by NAMI he had turned 27 and had to go SWO.

That's what makes me nervous... Considering my experience with military entrance I could be waiting awhile to get a ship date.

oops I read it as Nov don't know how, you are right, he would have to be in OCS by May 11th, if was seen by the board that just met he should be ok.

Thanks for your replies! I'm hoping that the board thinks I can make it in as well.

I really should stay off this website lol. I keep reading horror stories, and budget cut stuff.

I'm confident in my package... And I've already had a background check so maybe that will speed up things.

Supposedly they pay attention to people who are age critical and get them in quickly. I was accepted in December 2013 and they got me in for February, and I know people that were sent in a class or two ahead of me from the same board. And we weren't age critical, I'm just trying to say that there isn't always a long wait for OCS. Just make sure that your recruiter and processor know so that they can ask for a good class date. Make sure it is as soon as possible so if anything goes wrong while you are there you don't get really screwed by being rolled.

There are classes on April 6 and 27 according to the OCS Dates forum, so try to get in one of those classes. There should also be a May 11 class, but you'd graduate days before your birthday, and even a short stay in student pool (delayed NAMI letter, orders, etc) would stop you from going aviation. If they try to get you in the one that starts in a few weeks, and you can make it happen, do it.

I really hope this is the case. I'm ready to go tomorrow if they ask... I've been in the recruiting process for 14 months now.

I think I may be in the same boat as you. I was pro rec in sept for Supply and have been waiting for my final select since. I turn 29 in July and my AOIC told me that it does not matter if it turn 29 while at OCS. Not really sure who I could ask to verify that.

It is and has always been a "commissioned by" date I have seen several AD get bad advice from people that have not been involved in OCS recruiting, OCS rules =/= NROTC rules, OCS rules =/= USNA rules, and in some cases AD OCS rules =/= non AD OCS rules.

The above being said you are AD, the max age you have given your AD time is 31 so you are not age critical.

Thanks for this info. It is nice to understand why I am okay.

If it takes you more than 45 seconds to see it, you missed it.

I saw it fine the second time, and the 45 seconds included color blind tests and others. The only thing MEPS mentioned about depth perception was "your good" and then on to the next test. I was cleared by NAMI after getting a civilian eye exam. I'm all set on that front... Not currently an issue. Thanks though, I appreciate all input.
