Hey, everyone
I'm prior enlisted (2007-2011) and I'm getting ready to head back in, only this time as an officer. I'm taking the ASTB on Tuesday and am pretty well excited. I'm 31 with no medical problems and I'm in good shape. I've been lecturing at the University of Tennessee and have had ample time to workout (been following Tactical Barbell, for what it's worth).
So here's the dilemma. My recruiter has informed me I can go in as an NFO, but not as a pilot. Apparently there is a slightly longer age cut-off for being an NFO. And, of course, if I hadn't been prior enlisted I wouldn't be able to go in as an NFO either. I am grateful. Very grateful.
But I'm curious: does anyone know if I'll be able to somehow "switch" over to pilot once I get in? Or is this ruling pretty well set in stone?
Moreover, is it true that NFOs get to go through Flight School, SERE, Jump, etc? I just want to make sure I'm not being hoodwinked. Joined before as a Master at Arms. That was an eye opener.
P.S. I apologize if this isn't the right place to post it.
Thanks for taking the time to read/respond.
