Air Force not accepting applications for OTS.

Wow.. crazy stats... It looks like the recession is hitting everyone, even the rich rich chair force. I've heard that there are no pilot contracts available in the Marine Corps for about a year and a half but there might be some in October 2010...

Recession? No, it's force shaping. The Marines and Army are still recruiting quite heavily across the board.

I think the point about the recession is simply more people are staying on. I seem to recall hearing AF retention is at a 15+ year high. Generally speaking your chances of walking into a job making 100K are significantly less now than they were two years ago and in comparison your job security is going to be close to zero. I know if I were currently in I wouldn't be in any hurry to get out.

OTS for the Air Force is not looking good this year either. I am prior AF, and have friends trying to commission in it. They have been trying to apply for a few years now, and the boards keep getting canceled and none are scheduled so far this year either...

Didn't they just have a rated board? Isn't a non-rated board scheduled for March or April?

Honestly I'm not sure on the specifics. I have friends in both active duty and the Reserves, and they have both been trying to make it to a board for over a year. Just got word that their prospects are not looking good once more.

Not surprising at all, the USAF is trying to get rid of 2000 officers this year alone.

They are offering some interesting incentives for those looking at getting out... I was on duty with an AF IP and we had a long discussion about the state of the USAF... However, it sounded like they were less eager to get rid of pilots. Some of the programs they were introducing were available to anyone except pilots.

What did they change the date to? So do you know if the Non-rated one is canceled as well?

August is the next rated board. I'm applying to the next non-rated one (hey, I need a job after grad school), and that one's in April or so. They're being relatively nice about it and allowing letters of rec/etc. to stand even though they're technically out of date. Which was good for me, 2 of mine were out of date for the non-rated, and I'd have to ask all over again for the next rated.

But no word on whether anything else will get canceled. Fingers crossed.

WOW so they have canceled the rated board for a full year! That means the Navy will probably get flooded with applicants even more so now.

I know someone applying for the non-rated board but they are overseas. If you hear of the board being canceled before me please let me know so I can try sending an e-mail to him. I would appreciate it! Good Luck. I hope you get what you want.
