We used to have an entire metoc department. To be accurate, our metoc services are now contracted. But a weather guesser still sits in Operations Control within spit ball range of dispatchers 24/7. I think Delta still does the same.

Fedex has its own weather guessers.. But I have a sneaky suspicion that they are wrong more often than right cause we always seem to get in.. My most recent was experience was in RDU during Hurricane Florence where the current was certainly not as forecast.

I find this doubtful. Have you seen military TAFs? There's at least twice as many lines in a military TAF as there are in a civilian one. It's clear that must mean the military TAF is at least twice as good.
