Echo all that was said... you don't know until you try... and trying is where its at.

As far as HJ's suggestion to put SNFO as your third choice, I second that one. i wanted to be a pilot but I'm definitely happy as an NFO.

A word of caution if you do get selected for NFO: As was alluded to, you won't be actually flying the aircraft. Some of my buddies I went through flight school with quit for that exact reason. They couldn't handle being in the jet and not be the pilot. Others had the "I'd rather be a pilot" chip on their shoulder. Neither is a good attitude.

That being said, if you wouldn't mind being an NFO, by all means put it as your third choice. Its a great job. I love doing what I do.

I also think you have the right mindset about being a Naval Officer.. officer first, Pilot/NFO/SWO/whatever second.

Good luck to you and hope to see you in the fleet someday.

July Final Select SNA
2.6 here and a useless degree, knock out the ASTB and I would say you have a good as a shot as anyone; if ya don't or fall sub 5's or lower then that's another story.

I felt the same way when I was first applying intill my semi-retarded friend got selected, he had a way higher GPA but the intellect and street/common sense of a 13 year old, goes to show you GPA is in noway a intelligence measure, more of a laziness/partying measure, and I think Big Navy knows that.

Although I went in to college with the attitude that GPA only mattered for Grad School wannabe Doctors and Lawyers so that may have had something to do with it also, after graduation I realized I was sort of wrong.

Good luck
