Any bad experiences with PRK?

Jeff29, if you happen to get surgery and have an untreated ring around your eyes (where you see starbursts and ghosts at night) can this be corrected with a follow up surgery? Also I am 4 months post operative and I still see starbursts and ghosting at night, is this normal or do you think that my doctor miscalculated my pupil size?

Those of ya'll near Houston I'd highly recommend Dr. Koch of Baylor Eye Institute. I had a NASA eye doc refer him to me.

What was everybody's pre-op refrac? I am -7.00 and -6.75, just under the waiver pre-op limit.

Spr, I am using Dr. Holladay out in Bellaire. He is great! I went for my screening last week and I am going to have in late August between Summer II and Fall semesters. Good luck at OCS!

Seriously dude . . . I was -1.75, -2.00 pre-op and I thought I was blind. Good luck /w the surgery though. Hope they can get you better than 20/20.

This problem can be corrected with a very specific (very new) surgery. I can give you info on that if you need it.

At 4 months, you may still be healing. After 6 months, I'd start to worry a little. After a year, you're screwed. There is a pretty easy way to determine the source of the problem: Your doc should have record of both your pupil size and the size of your treatment zone. As long as your pupil size is smaller, you should be OK.

What are the perequisites for getting PRK? I heard your eyes have to stay stable for at least one year before they even consider you. And is it true that you have to have your eyes good to go before starting TBS (or Flight School)? Since I'm not on active duty (NROTC), do I have to pay for it on my own? Thanks.

jolly roger...my eyesight was a -5.75 in one eye and a -5.5 in the other or something like that i don't remember exactly. Pretty bad though. Good luck to you as well.
