Any insight to what Flight training is like in Pensacola

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on things one might study or become familiar with prior to reporting to Pensacola. By a higher beings help, I have managed to get picked up into the N.F.O. program and will be starting OCS on the 9th of August. My graduation will tentatively be on Halloween at which time, I report to Pensacola to commence flight school. I am prior service and was in a HSL squadron, so I am not completely unaware of aircraft terminology, but flying will be different and I understand this. Anything, you guys suggest to go over prior to me getting down to Pensacola would be apprec. immensly. I am just trying to get a jump on the training.

Thanks.

Check out the NASC website. You can get all of the API pubs. However, its going to be a LONG time before you get to API. After completing OCS, you might not even receive orders to report to Pensacola right away.

After that you will have to complete IFS, and then after probably a few weeks you will class up for API.

When you actually get down to Pensacola and have free time, do a once over of Aero and Weather. Other than that, getting a jump isn't really going to help.

heres a random question....even if you're already a rated private pilot or higher, although IFS is not required could you still just weasel your way into it for the sake of refreshing or just plain getting a few more flight hours?

gcmoftex. I'd start learning how to iron your undies into those neat little squares. API and Primary trash isn't worth your time yet.

+1. There is no guarantee you will make it through OCS, so focus on the task at hand. P-L-E-N-T-Y of time to study for API after that......I honestly wouldn't even hit the books until day 1 at the earliest, technique only

If you really have NO IDEA what the training is going to be like, pick up a copy of the book Air Warriors: The Inside Story of the Making of a Navy Pilot by Douglas Waller. It's a great book, it's this website's namesake, and it'll help you poop better if you read it on the shitter...

Advice: better get a thicker skin if you're heading to OCS. Uncle Fester was just giving you good gouge on how to use this forum. It has at least 7 years of info relating to your question. Older stuff doesn't pop unless you use search or modify your viewing settings in the threads. Mod staff is very quick to recommend using search rather than encouraging every new poster to ask questions that have been answered over and over. There are several "Mega" threads in which similar questions and topics have been merged so take some time to do some looking around at threads recommended by Uncle Fester.

Mods will be quick to cool down your desperation if it encourages similar posts. As an Officer Candidate, you are expected to show initiative so Mods will stifle any attempts ask questions that have answers already resident in the handy dandy threads.

Tougher, thicker, maybe both. The aviation training scrapheap is full of overly cocky/thin skinned "prior service" types.

Your prior service and 50 cents will get you a cup of joe at the API coffee mess. Good luck. Better fix your attitude prior to October.

yak, yak, yak

.........and its obviously full of people that dont know when to shut their mouth and speak when spoken to. simple question requires simple answer, without any tangents. Sounds like you need to have some kids, so you can tell THEM what to do, cause your daddy skills in this forum just aint cutting it. Every profession has their idiots, and I guess you are keeping that tradition alive and well in the navy. Your're Making Uncle Sam Proud.
