You do the inventory PRT either the first or second week that you're here. NOMI is on a Wed, you get your up-chit and take it on Thurs. You do another one the first Monday of API.

I got here April 7th, and they told us that we would be classing up like as soon as we had our up chits and had done BOLTC. My roommate, who checked in 3 minutes after me, started API on 5 May. I was slated for 12 May, then got bumped to 19 May, and am now scheduled for 26 May. Go figure. It's pretty tough to say, but if you show up the 23rd, I would say you could expect to class up mid-July at the earliest. Don't worry too much though, you'll find out what's going on when you report here.

SNFO waiting for primary
I know a SNFO who got to Pcola in Sep. w/IFS complete, as far as I know she still hasn't classed up for API. I will check in at the end of June and expecting a long wait before API.

Just an update for AF pilot candidates. I checked in on 24 April and class up on 19 May. I know that right now we already have folks slated for classes through the 16 June start date, but as always that can change (they skipped the week of 26 May for classing up any AF pilots in an attempt to cut the post-api wait to start at VT-3, and may do it again in subsequent weeks).

On the SNFO side the wait is long. I showed up October 5th last year and I am classing up in a week. In other words prepare to stand by. 34 -36 weeks on board is average right now.

You still get paid. You can get a prat time job on top of the pay though... I'd suggest it. Does 2 things: more money and something to do. You could also get a stash job.

You basically muster, check-in, then go right back to bed. 9 months of no work and I got paid for it. Only in the Navy baby. YAaaaaR!

I'd say you should spend all the time you're in A-Pool studying your API books ahead. API is very challenging, and the earlier you start learning the material, the more likely you'll get jets...

Study ahead or not to study ahead...that is the question I've been posing for months now. I'd say 80-90 percent of the aviators I polled said wait until you get into ifs/api etc then start studying. They said it doesn't do much good to know EP's etc if you don't know what they are talking about.

What's the concensus around these parts? Study ahead or not?

I'm thinking a familiarization with the material would be a good idea, but hard-core studying just doesn't seem to be recommended (all that often) until you START flight school...?

I read through the first half of aero, and the weather pub before I started. I felt like it made it easier to roll into the swing of things once class started. I didn't attempt to memorize learning objectives or anything like that until class actually started. I overkilled Aero 1 when it came to studying, but I'd rather have studied too much than not enough, especially when it comes to that first exam. The classes that I read ahead in were the ones that I did the best on when it came to the exams. I'd say its worth reading the pubs for a general understanding ahead of time. (Though Aero 2 might make Aero 1 more confusing, so I think I'd just do the first half of the book on that one.)

I have Day Zero tmrw.

I know this has been covered in the past but I just wanted to ask those who just recently got thru API academics. Whats was your strategy for studying? I know that only "I" know what works for me. But I just want to get a census of what worked for "other" people. Especially on the different subjects bc I know everyone has their own style of studying.

Anyways, I guess its a peace of mind kinda thing. Thanks all.

Study in groups, learn the material on your own and then study in groups. API is set up in such a way that you can walk in on Day 1 without any prior gouge (not recommended) and still be successful. Do pre-read the chapters specified and you will do fine as long as you are willing to put the time in to study. During Aero I and the initial briefs you will be told the different study techniques to utilize and what has worked in the past and will continue to work.

Know the Enabling Objectives (you will hear this again). Take gouge for what it’s worth, the test is not written from gouge, the test is written from the Enabling Objectives. :D

I expected API to be really tough but to me it ended up just being alot of hype. I read the chapters and then answered the questions at the end of the chapters, printed out the elo's off of www.debich.net. Study those and you should do great. All the other gouge I got was a pile of sh**.
