Theres this thing... its called the uniform of the day...

Well aware of that but when you get conflicting stories from student control depending what day you call, its better to show up overdressed for the occasion.

DISCLAIMER...This is in general info, and does not pertain specifically to API/A Pool...

In the Navy, it's generally accepted to check-in in khakis. Not wash khakis, but the poly-wool deals (or whatever they're called now. I still call them CNTs, even though they're not). You can always check in in Service Dress Blues, no matter the time of year. However, checking in in Whites in the winter isn't really "right," and you'll look weird.

So, end of disclaimer. Now, what does that mean? Call the Stud Control guys and ask. If they jerk you around, you can't go wrong w/ Blues. Between me, you, and the other hundred jokers here, you'll be fine checking in in Khakis.

I totally agree. If someone is wearing gold wings on their chest, they should not be giving anyone grief about checking in in khakis. It is probably different in the tin can navy, but that's not what you joined.

When we have new pilots come over from the FRS, we have them check in wearing a flight suit.

Thats the difference between the fleet and the training command I guess...we don't make the rules we just do what what can.

Since you don't have your community or details posted anywhere, it's tough to gauge what your post actually means. But for those of you starting out, the above is BAD GOUGE. Don't be that guy. We're not talking about getting your orders stamped the first night you've arrived. We're talking about the first day you're showing up to meet your new command.

insanebikerboy, if your milage varied, then cool deal, but for most, the uniform of the day will be the required minimum.

gatordev, good point, i took the question as being getting orders stamped. As for actually showing up to work the first day I always just came in khakis, or in utilities (when I was enlisted). as for mileage, i've been at three different commands, not including my schools

Ok people, HERE'S THE DEAL: check in wearing KHAKIS. I work in flight management right now and khakis is totally acceptable and preferred bc it's like 90 degrees! Bring all your paperwork, fit-rep, cople copies of orders, med/dental records. We usually laugh at people in Blues because they're sweating their balls off...
In case you don't believe me, here is the number for flight management control: 850-452-3542
An ENS will likely answer and they can tell you anything else you may need to know about check-in or get someone on the line that can.
Also, you need to check-in before 0700, otherwise that day will be charged as leave. People check-in all the time at 0730 or 0800 and it sucks for them because they get charged the whole day because they didn't know.

Are we talking API check-in or just for flight school in general...? I know we've got IFS before API so are we talking about the same check-in process?

Thanks,

_J

This is all in reference to API check-in. Dont worry about IFS. They'll give you all the info when you get here. You wear civies when you do IFS. Also, WEAR KHAKIS OR THE UNIFORM OF THE DAY(i.e. flight suit) whenever inside the API bldg. No PT gear or other junk. They are very anal about this. I learned the hard way.

Unless you get the distinct honor and privilege of moving office furniture and other related paraphernalia.
