API Grades

If you are an aero engineer and you cant get through API you should hand in your degree. I mean business majors can get through it. API is a time for drinking with your buddies. (and enjoying your last few weeks of being treated like an adult if you get volunchosen for Vance)

Amen to that.

And gtg941f, I applaude your attitude, but your studying WAY to far in advance. Go out and have fun while you can. Besides, being able to relax and toss back a few with some friends can just as easily help your career as much as API grades do, if not more. Also, I never did OCS, but I would probably focus more on preparing for that. The Navy will give you everything you need to get through API, you just have to let them.

As far as pre-API studying is concerned, all I did was flip through the pubs a bit the week prior to starting. Didn't even read them in depth... just flipped through them so I wan't see it all for the first time when I went to class. It turns out, I'd seen most of the info in college. And my buddy that studied and made millions of flash cards prior to API didn't do that much better than I did.

The API material is an absolute joke. I don't think it's difficult, just figured it couldn't hurt to take a look at it beforehand.

I do not know much about the AeroEng major, but did you take any courses on Air Navigation and Flight Rules and Regulations? Didn't see that in the AeroEng cirriculum...lol..Best advice the people gave me from the fleet is be humble with saying that you know everything, or this stage will be a breeze for me. There always something out there that you don't know or can learn. Also motivation and determination is what I believe is the key to success in flight training, not your background major from college. Finally knowing where to draw the line between confidence and cockiness can help you to avoid making yourself look like a real jerk in front of your peers. With that said prior preparation shouldn't hurt you in the long run. Reporting down to P-cola this summer myself, so good luck to ya shipmate.

Thanks and good luck to you this summer. :icon_smil

I eventually have become a complete ass in this thread due to some people wanting to hear one thing and others wanting to hear something else. Big deal if I take a look at the material beforehand. Truly what can it hurt? I don't depend on my degree for anything. I'm going to work very hard for everything I get and really hope I can achieve all my goals. Like any online forum it just seems like you can't please everybody, therefore I threw out an ass statement in the end that API material is a joke and end of thread. I'm sorry, and I do feel like a great majority of it is easy but another majority of it is worth taking a look at if I want to go into API or Primary very prepared and wanting to do well, and if nothing else to simply refresh and remind myself of some principle topics.

Yeah and did you take weather....I think not. The point is majoring in aero engineering or any technical major for that matter, probably forced you to learn how to study pretty efficiently, not that you know the material already. Thats where your advantage will be. You'll have more time for drinking than your friends, or at least i did. Trust me, you'll wish you wouldnt have wasted 4 years of college studying after you see how basic the material is.

I actually have taken weather:

1) intro to weather
2) advanced physics of weather

I understand what you mean about study habits. :D
