Scotty008,

While Thriller may have included a little too much information is his post, there is no need to bring out the scarf comment. Have you even ever seen an Air Force pilot in a scarf or is that just a funny joke you learned at TBS? Don't get pissed at Air Force for classing up before you do... you are not in competition with them for API seats, Primary seats, or track selection. Besides, Air Force have the longest wait to start at Whiting right now...once again it is all about timing. Good luck at API and don't use such big words as "contingent", you are going to hurt your little green brain!

Just a little good natured ribbing! When did we start taking thing such as this so seriously here? There was no anger or malicious intent anywhere in that post. My cousin flys F-16s for the AF, and I have nothing but respect for the pilots and the service in general. All that I have met and/or SEEN have been nothing but professionals. Lighten up a little, and realize that nothing said in jest here is meant to be taken seriously. I wont even comment on the "little green brain" thing. You make fun of the supposed lack of intelligence in the Marine Corps (which is bull****), I make fun of the cute scarves and world-class golf courses (also, not intending to piss any of you farce guys off). We're all having to deal with waits, and there is no point in getting ugly about it. Lighten up and have some fun.

And you shouldn't have if you came directly from your commissioning source. Appointment orders don't rate DLA (unless this has been changed recently).

Unless you're prior or have a dependent

On the DLA bit - I got it, I assume, because I was prior enlisted and w/dependants. A couple of guys in my OTS class that came down though were brand new and finance was having them fill out the form for it when we filed vouchers after moving to Pcola. Can't say for sure if they got it (and more importantly, got to keep it) but I can find out. Their reason was that moving to Pcola was technically a PCS from Maxwell AFB (OTS), and that ROTC guys didn't qualify because they weren't coming from another base. Good on 'em if they got it.

Scotty - As far as scarves, a Mr Yeager, Mr. Rickenbacher and some fellas that go by "Tuskegee Airmen" called, and would like to know exactly what is wrong with the scarves that are as synonymous with flying as the leather jacket. Although I'm sure they would be willing to listen to your reasoning as to why, after a few beers and some telling of all those stories of exactly what it was you did that shaped the world of aviation. Oh, and about the dayglow t's and polo shirts under the flight suits...:D ;)

And being AF might make it a different animal, too.

Yeager and the Airmen can wear anything they want - they earned it. Rickenbacker was rescued from the middle of the Pacific by a Navy crew flying an OS2U Kingfisher after his crew got lost and ditched a B-17. Navy crew = leather jackets, no scarves. Chicks wear scarves as fashion pieces. Ruffled shirts used to be all de riguer, but you don't see anyone sporting those these days...

Rickenbacker was also America's leading ace in WWI with something like 24 kills, so I think he earned the right to sport his scarf too.

That said, I still think the scarf is silly despite all the badasses that have worn them. Lots of tough dudes used to wear tights, but I still don't think it's a good idea.

no tights?????? ... Well, i guess I had better reconsider my oufit for tomorow! The scarfs do look gay, but no one wears them anymore. Here is what pisses me off...in the air force, you have to earn the "fighter crush" / "bomber crush" (dent in back of flight cap), but apparently in the Navy, just being in API qualifies you... I guess it is just another difference between services, but bugs me anyways!

From looking aroung A-pool it seems to me some of that maybe attributed to some guys just don't GAF what their uniform looks like.....

For us it's an aviation-ish thing. But then again, some folks who aren't anywhere near aviation do it too just too look different.
