API Physical Requirements

My OSO said he's going to try to get me into something that's for flight school that's only 5 or 6 weeks. He called it IFF but I've never heard of that so I'm guessing he's talking about API. Now besides the fact I may be waiting forever and ever to actually get into it, I am more concerned with the PT requirements and the swim requirements as it's winter and no pools are opened and I'm in Colorado so it's not exactly warm outside when I go running.
Any help is appreciated.

IFS?...I would suggest a search...There are several threads about it.

BTW...the physical requirements? Eyes and a pulse...

As long as you are motivated, the physical requirements for API are not a problem. You need to pass a PFT by running at least a 12:00 mile and a half (under 24 y/o), and meet the Satisfactory level on the push-ups and situps. The swimming was challenging for me, since I am not a good swimmer. However, the instructors are very good and will continue to work with you as long as you put in the effort.

What happens if you fail the run part?

If you fail, you get rolled into remedial. Don't know if that means you don't start API or not right now. When I went through, they pre-screened you, so you actually took two PRTs. One to see if you passed, and if you did, another one on the first day or two of API that actually counted.

If you fail the pre-screening PRT, you have to go to remedial PT every morning at 0600 for at least a week until, obviously, you pass. If you fail the PRT conducted at the beginning of API, you embarrass yourself, get a pink sheet, and have to participate in some form of remedial PT until you pass the PRT (you'll run it the next week with the following class), but you'll stay with your class.

Random question, I was trying to find stuff on the flight physical and I came across the syllabus for API and it said there was an obstacle course. Is that still around or was this document old?

No obstacle course at API. Some OCS classes get to do the O-course at Corry Station.

500 ft. from said obstacle

Is much of API like this (I'm guessing it isn't), where you get rolled back and remediated until you pass? Whats the limit?

I have heard that the water survival stuff is, but the class stuff is three strikes and you're out (that is three fails...).

All of the swimming stuff is, although in most cases you won't get rolled back for failing an evolution. You'll just have to work on it each afternoon until you pass. The "three strikes" is a good rule of thumb for academics, but even that isn't set in stone. But if you're faced with studying for a test or working on something in the pool, study for the test. To paraphrase the ATS director, "I can work with you on the swimming stuff for months. But if you fail academics, you're out."
