Myself and two buds are reporting to API on June 23rd (SNA)... Any ideas or suggestions as to where we should consider getting an apartment/house?

Master your ego, and you own your destiny.
Depends. Are you guys SNA or SNFOs? Do you have follow on orders to either P'cola or Whiting? Because you can't use the "get out of lease free" card because they aren't far enough apart. Are you looking for an apartment or a house? Are you thinking of subletting or signing your own lease? All of those things should factor in to it.

For example, my friend got a place in the area of Cordova mall because he had follow on orders to Whiting. He put himself halfway between NASP and Whiting. In that situation you dont want to get a place thats 5 min from the back gate of NASP for API, and then have to commute for 2 hours to Whiting Field for Primary for 6 months. Just one example.

Look around on this site, alot of times theres people with places to rent who are moving out.

Jease, you academy guys find out everything so much quicker. Whats the trend with academy SNA/SNFO's on showing up to API? With you its june, what about the majority of the others?

hrmm i think we had 15 for june 9, 21 do june 23, 40 for the rest of the months until january, excluding december...(this is just an estimate, i havent seen the final cut, all i know is we picked our dates on thursday and thats roughly the breakdown of how many spots we had to choose from. We had roughly 270 pilots pick dates on thursday.

We talked with detailers from API on wednesday, they told us the current wait for SNFO's is 6.5 months...For SNA's, They told us they expect to be incredibly undermanned come june and those of us coming in june could expect to be in our primary squadron 8 weeks after reporting for API.

mules83.. are you waiting to hear or something?

I second that. Just be careful what you do. I think if you live out by Perdido Key you might be far enough away to qualify for the move. Check with someone who knows what they're talking about at Personnel Property (this step alone may be harder than finding a place that falls outside the radius). I remember one person in particular who was living by Corry Station and I believe she got a move, but I could be completely wrong.

I liked that news about sna's...gets my hopes up. I have a couple of sna friends in p-cola who have been waiting months to start api.

Just so you know, some places near the back gate DO allow you to break a lease for Whiting. You just need to ask before you sign anything. Don't forget to look for houses to rent, too.

We'll have at least one room available in the place I'm staying now. It's a nice, new construction apartment close to the base and the NEX mall. 3 bedrooms in all. One guy here is an NFO and will be here for a while. The other is finishing API in a coupla weeks and then leaving for Vance AFB for primary. With any luck I'll be finishing up API around the beginning/middle of June and then going to Vance for primary about the same time you'll be getting here.
If you're interested, email me and I'll get you specifics or photos of anything you want.
Good luck!

If I were to guess I'll be heading to Pensacola in early-mid July. Because of the wait I'm hearing about for API (months upon months), Im trying to get PTAD orders to my OSO. My question is will I get BAH? If so, will i get BAH for Pensacola (cause thats where I'm supposed to be) or will I get BAH for San Diego (cause thats where I'll actually be on PTAD). Also, will i have to maintain an address in the NASP area if im going to be gone for 2 months? Thanks

They only let you stay in the BOQ for about 10 days or so while you find someplace to live. Don't plan on being there the whole time.

I'm TAD in San Diego right now. Not sure what the "P" in PTAD means but im guessing its the samething. To answer your questions-Yes, youll receive BAH but it will be Pcola bah. I'm not sure what u mean by maintaining a Pcola addy. I still have my place in pcola (which im still paying rent/ults). But im staying with my gf so i aint paying rent or nuttin here in sd. Anyways, good luck and feel free to ask if u have any ???s.

The latest information I've seen lately on the wait for SNA's and A.P.I. was at least three months and probably more. Does this equate to the backlog of S.N.A.'s being eliminated by the end of May?? Or am I missing something here.

SNA in Meridian
I stayed at Kings Mill Apts when I was there last year. If your going to Whiting for Primary its exactly half way between Nas PCola (API) and Whiting (Primary). Really nice place and nice staff. It's on Davis Highway.

Peace,
