They only let you stay in the BOQ for about 10 days or so while you find someplace to live. Don't plan on being there the whole time.

This is true of the NAS Pansacola BOQ. However, because you won't be in Pensacola for all that long as a pilot in API, I recommend the Q at Corry Station. They don't have a whole lot of rooms for officers there, and they are on a first come first serve basis, but it really saved me the hassle of having to find a decent apartment for such a short period of time, and then having to deal with ending the lease early and trying to move somewhere else for Primary. Basically, the Q at Corry is a good option for those who will be in Pensacola for only a couple months. Once you finish API, you just throw your crap in the back of your car and go to wherever you will be living for Primary... not a bad deal... Be aware though that if you do want to live at NTTC Corry Station for API, it will take a few phone calls to figure out when a room opens up. The rooms tend to go fast. Good luck.

If i get sent down to NASP, live in the BOQ for a few weeks, but then get sent on PTAD during the API wait, will i get BAH?

like its been said, if you'll be leaving pcola for primary, live closer to nasp. if not, live in between. when i went through, the navy guys who were going to whiting, actually were 'moved' by the navy to whiting, then TAD down to nasp. therefore, those that waited a while were racking up per diem. in the range of $1000+ or more. however, if you get going as soon as you get there, thats not really a player, but that at least gives you a good start on your wings. buddy of mine did the same thing after the academy, started right away and was winged in sh-60s in like 18 months.

i would recommend not living in the BOQ. friends of mine who did all got into some trouble when they would get a little rowdy. living off base, you dont have to deal with that problem.
