Api Prt

What is the initial API PRT minimum? is it a good-low overall or a good-low in each category?
in that case, what happens if you dont pass. I hear they make you take one each week until you pass along with a maximum number of attempts.

Ninja, it's been a few weeks since I started API, but I think it's good-low in each category. Expect to get remedial PT and a retest every week until week 3 or 4 (maybe someone else can fill in the gaps here). Of course, you should be shooting for much higher than the minimums - refer to http://www.navy-prt.com/malestandard.html for exact numbers.

Yes, when I went through they expected everyone to get GL in all categories.

Point of contention: During API, they measured EVERYONE in the 20-24 age category (I was 30). So Run: <12:00, S/U: >58, P/U: >47. But of course that was back in 1996 and they still had the Obstacle Course (O-Course) and the Cross-Country 1.5 mile run (Can you say twisted ankles?).

Aim for better than good low and you should do fine. Also, when you show up and you are in the "A" or "B" pool, you will have plenty of time to run prior to classing up for API. Take advantage of the free time and run/PT every morning before it gets hot!

Ninja...if you are this worried about the distinction...you got bigger problems than how NSI chooses to score your PRT.

Instead of looking for a solution on the internet, look for a solution in your running shoes and on your pullup bar. You're an officer, act like it.

Not to be rude but if someone can't pass the API PRT, specifically at that age (API age), you've got bigger problems. A 12 minute run should be cake, max push-ups and sit-ups shouldn't be an issue either. Thats the easy shit. I'm 37, torn up back (blown out discs at least three times now), bum knee and can still run better than 12 minutes and running with my bad back is often excruciating painful; yet I can still max push-ups and sit-ups and I'm an old man!! Last thing guys in API should be worried about is physical standards, should be in top shape at that point of your life.

Not so much anymore, or at least as of the summer of '06. It's based on your actual age group.

You'd be surprised. I'm 30 and recently finished API. I'm by no means a stud, but I was smoking several of my 22 yo classmates on the PRT, swim, etc. It's pretty sad if this guy is passing you on the run.:D

They got rid of the sand and cross-country portion of the API PRT, didn't they? It's just a hamster trail now, correct?

Chip trail, aka "hamster trail." The hamster trail used to end at the woods behind the pool, you'd go on a dirt trail for a while, then return via 75m of sand.

Yea that PRT was a joke. Unfortunately, a CG type was the fastest runner in out class and put the rest of us to shame.

Ahh, API... The one time in my life that as a commissioned officer in the Marine Corps I had to take a Navy PRT for score.
