For the section relating to police offenses that reads:

"THIS FORM IS TO BE USED IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN CHARGED WITH OR CONVICTED OF ANY ALCOHOL RELATED TRAFFIC OFFENSE OR ANY OTHER NON TRAFFIC ARREST, NO MATTER HOW MINOR."

My OSO said to go back five years. I was wondering, however, whether you have to list non traffic citations or just arrests as it says above. Being arrested and being cited are two totally different things. Also, do you have to list citations that were dismissed by the magistrate?

I had a disorderly conduct charge that was dismissed. I was never arrested, just given a citation and sent on my way.

I wouldn't put it on there if I were you. In my opinion, having charges dismissed is the same as saying it never happened. I doubt there is any record of the dismissed charges. They won't comb through your file that heavily anyways.

Anyways, you don't want someone to make the mistake of seeing that you have a disorderly conduct (even though it was dismissed).

Well on the SF-86 you have to put it, they WILL find anthing during the clearance check. I was just wondering what needs to be put for the application. I had to put down that I tried marijuana once because when I went to MEPS for Navy a while back I was dumb and told them. Therefore, I didn't want to lie on my application when my MEPS record has conflicting info. I didn't realize the Marine Corps requires a waiver for using pot once ten years ago.........

Very true. People think because they weren't cited or charged that they can answer, "No" to a "Have you ever been arrested?" question.

So then what do I put? Do I just go back five years as my OSO said and list only the disorderly that was dropped or should I list the underage/public intox. from 6 years ago that I pled guilty to public intox.?

Whatever the instructions on the SF-86 or EPSQ says and/or the OSO.

Well, I know for the SF-86 you go back 7 years for the EPSQ. However, for the application my OSO says to go back 5 years. Won't that show conflicting information and look bad?

Looks like you need to have a heart to heart with your OSO. Have you been up front with what's happened to you? (I'm hoping you have.) Only he has the answers.

Oh yeah, of course. There isn't anything major in my background. Like I said: a disorderly that got dropped and a public intox when I was 18. I told my OSO all about it but I am just making sure he is right in saying to go back five years. To me this is odd b/c with the Navy I had to go back 7 years both on the application and on the SF-86. With the Army, they require EVERYTHING. Therefore, I am just double checking information. I have nothing to hide.

If you have it "in writing" and you follow that, you're good to go. Remember, make copies of all forms you fill out and turn in to back yourself up. ;)

You're on the right course with integrity!

Well, I have my OSO's email saying to go back only five years. However, I KNOW I have to go back 7 for the SF-86 right? So since they are submitted together should I just go back 7 for each?

Look... Who knows more about the way an application is filled out than your OSO? Learn to follow simple instructions, and quit freaking out about something so damn minimal.

No, nobody really ever answered my questions. I am not freaking about something minimal. Every service is different but I do know if you get caught in a lie you are ****ed. That seems to be the consensus. I will likely just put it on there to be safe.
