No, nobody really ever answered my questions. I am not freaking about something minimal. Every service is different but I do know if you get caught in a lie you are ****ed. That seems to be the consensus. I will likely just put it on there to be safe.

Actually, you should hold onto your application for another month and just ponder the exact right answer to this question. If I were you I would call all 4 branch's officer and enlisted recruiters and ask what THEY would put on the application if THEY had to fill it out. Just to be safe I would make sure to include any time that you think a cop almost pulled you over for speeding but didn't. I knew a Lt at TBS who didn't put a time that he entered an intersection on a yellow light 6 and a half years ago and he was pulled out of training in handcuffs and sent to Ft. Leavenworth. Sure he just forgot about it and didn't think you needed to go past 5 years, but you think the judge believed him? Hell no! He saw right past that alibi to what was REALLY happening- some no good punk trying to put one over on Uncle Sam! His wife left him, his parents disowned him, and he has been blacklisted from any job that has anything to do with flying or the government.

Nevermind the simple answer to this question that your OSO gave you in writing. What the hell does he know?

The most important thing to remember is stay consistant. No one really cares about you taking a drag ten years ago. The same goes for getting drunk and falling down in front of a cop. You weren't busted sell crack or anything. Some of the best Generals were screw ups in there college days. You are right to put it down, it's nothing that would keep you out.

Ok... I realize I was really harsh in my above statement, but this topic aggrivates me, hopefully I will help you with this post:

Your OSO gave you explicit instructions, and because of your prior knowledge you have a hunch he could be wrong. Maybe you are right, but the correct course of action is to go back to him and say "Hey sir, I have a reason for thinking that I should go back 7 years instead of 5 because of xxx reason". Instead, what you are doing is saying "I really think he's wrong, so I'll ask a message board full of people who really don't know ****, and use their answers as justification to disobey my direct instructions without even telling my OSO".

on a related note:

Hey taxman................ Go **** yourself!

Pretty bold and audacious statement! You're on the right track. I'm surprised you didn't start a thread asking random message board users if you should reply to my message or not.

Taxman, easy on this poor fellow, we trying to get this fellow into the Armed Service. He is not getting this whole thing.

Hey, i like that one about the Lt. at TBS. So tell us more, did they have reporters doing photo ops. Did he look like he had his head in his a$$?

Taxman, I posted on here because I live in VA now and my OSO is in Pittsburgh. He isn't in the office often and he does not like e-mail. Also, I figured I would see what everybody else's OSO told them to do considering the Navy works a bit differently so I wanted to be certain. This is very important to me and I don't want to mess it up.

Be honest to questions asked. No more no less.

If it asks for 5 years, give them 5 years. If asks for 7, give them 7.

But like Taxman alluded to, the OSO is really the only guy who is "in the know." So you take what you hear on the Internet like a grain of sand- and the OSO's word as gold.

And don't pick fights with misc. posters unless you know you can take them.. ;)

Ha ha fair enough. Well, the application says "have you ever" which is the only reason I asked. Ever implies much further back than five years and the EPSQ def. asks for 7. However, I will take the advice given and do what the OSO said.

Just be honest. I told em I experimented with marijuana and alkie in high school and they still gave me a full scholarship. Everyone makes mistakes, I wouldn't worry about it.
