Working full time as a Correctional Officer at a state prison and taking 18 credit hours per semester is taking a lot out of me. Hopefully working hard to support a family will be favorable in the boards eyes. I had asked my recruiter if I made the list for April and he confirmed. He said there were approx. 100 applicants for SNA in the April board. Good luck to everyone who posted. This is round two for me. September 2009 I was a Non-select.

You can apply for SNA by taking the OAR? I thought for SNA you had to take the ASTB.

He wrote it wrong, his scores are the ASTB. But yal you have to take the 3 extra sections.

My bad, I guess I'm up for May boards if my stuff is in by April 15th. Good luck anyways, don't take up all the free slots though. One more question too, should I apply for SNA and SNFO? I've heard people say to just do pilot if you don't want to get "stuck" with SNFO. But I also heard you can get over to SNA during API if you're absolutely stellar in your class. Any recommendations?

That's definetly something you could do, but from what I've heard, its super competitive to make the switch, and they may not even have the need to switch anyone. I applied SNA only for March, with the thought that if I didn't get picked, I'd reapply SNA only, and if I still didn't get picked I would have put SNA, NFO, and either SWO or Supply, because I want to be an Officer, but I want to give myself every opportunity to fly. Bottom line, (in my opinio) don't put NFO unless you'll be happy as an NFO.

MEPS: Cleared
PRT: Have not gotten around to the Official PRT yet, but consistently scoring Good High in all events.
LORs: 2 Current Employers, 1 Professor, San Francisco President of the Board of Supervisors\

Hopefully I will get picked up this time around, if not I may just enlist and see where that takes me.

I took the ASTB test. The OAR is the last numbers (51).

I already looked into Army OCS. They are backlogged with applicants also and OCS is filled up until next fiscal year. They also recently implemented a rigorous new Board Process for Army OCS to accommodate the influx of applicants. In short the Army is not hard up for Officers, in fact they are bursting at the seems with them. If you spend a few minutes on the Army OCS forum you will get a sense for how competitive the new application process for Army Officers has become. It used to be, especially around 2005, if you were competent enough to get an Kit together you were pretty much guaranteed a shot at Army OCS, lots of people missed the boat on those days.

I have a Army National Guard Officer Contract waiting for me to sign which I am going to turn down. I want to serve in the Navy, Officer or not.

My age and non-technical degree only permit me to apply to a limited number of designators. I originally applied to Supply, SWO-IP and INTEL, but this time round my recruiter told me that Supply and SWO-IP were closed out, and that I would only be seen by INTEL. My first choice would have been SWO-IP.

Thats good to know, I was just parroting what others have told me, i stand corrected. I talked to the National guard and they told me they have open billets in my state for Officer helicopter pilots, if the Navy doesnt take me back i might check it out.

Yeah, the nice thing about the Guard is they will guarantee your branch of choice and your unit in your contract. Oh and the $10K Officer Bonus is a plus too. You are lucky because many states do not have any aviation units, and the States that do have a limited amount of billets to fill. The catch in joining the Guard is you have to be accepted into the unit by the commanding officer before they will let you have your branch/unit written into you contract. Recruiters are notorious for acting like you can have any thing you want until it comes time to sign the contract at MEPS and you find out that all the billets are filled. Just be ready to stick to your guns and demand that aviation slot, or be ready to choose another branch. Also check out Armyngocs.com you can get a lot of helpful info there if you do decide to go with the Army National Guard.

EDIT: I suppose the Air National Guard might be another place to check out for someone who wants an aviation slot.

I have always wanted to be a sailor, so that is why I am willing to go enlisted after I exhaust all my attempts at Navy OCS.
