This is true. I am mad that I'm not a Tomcat guy. They lived in the Navy that I wanted to join. Not the one that I'm in now.
Where did you get your idea of what the Navy was going to be like before you joined? Was Topgun the real Navy you wanted to join?

The Tomcat entered service after Vietnam and only really participated in Desert Shield as a strike escort and as a Recce platform (according to Wikipedia).
I bet a lot of the guys in the Navy you "wanted to join" are envious of the past decade+ of combat that they missed.
