I just took form 2 and will retake form 1 in 30 days. I've dowloaded the practice test from this site and appreciate any additional study guides/tips anyone can provide.

Did you do poorly enough on Form 2 to warrant a retake? What are your stats?

I only took form 1, but i found the study guide here to be extremely useful. Just know how to solve the problems. You will see a lot of the same math problems but with different numbers.

The mechanical section is mainly just logic. no numbers are involved, so just brush up on your physics rules. Somebody posted here a mechanical suppliment packet to the study guide, but i dont know where its at. It has an F/A-18 on the cover of it and pretty much goes over basic physics rules that you will need to know for the test.

For Spatial..grab an arco book, and study the spatial in that. Its not the same as you will find on the test, but it is the closest i have seen. Someone on here suggested grabbing a flight sim and playing with that..might not be a bad idea. I found this section to be the most stressful because of how pressed you are for time.

As for the Aviation/Nautical..just know the study guide section cold and you will be fine.

Good luck!

mfross,

i have kind of a mini-method to rocking the SA section of the astb, it worked great for me, i didnt miss any of the questions, and i finished with at least 2 minutes to check over my work. what you have to do is break it down so you can eliminate a bunch of choices and get an answer really quickly. usually u can eliminate a lot of choices based solely on whether the plane is flying inland or out to sea. after you eliminate that, there's usually only 2 or 3 remaining, it becomes infinitely easier to get an answer. then you gotta look for climb or descent. after that, you look for bank and degree of bank, but usually by this point u know what the answer is already. i think that the problem people have is that they immediately look for bank, which makes it exponentially more difficult. if you practice the SA in that order, as opposed to bank first, or everything at once, then you'll get thro it with minutes to spare

i took form 2 about a week ago and think im going to retake it in a couple months. The questions on that one were similer to the ones in the study guide, just that everything seemed to be the opposite answer. One suggestion i can give is sont take the computerized version. I took it and my computer was soooo slow. it took about 10 - 15 sec to get to the next question, which i know hurt my score (especially in the SA section where i didnt get to answer 3 questions.) Just my thoughts...

Do you have the choice to not take the comp version?

i think you do actually, but they set me up with the computer and all, and it wasnt until the test started that i realized how slow it was. Looking back i should have asked for the paper version, or at least a new computer, but oh well... i scored a 52 7/8/7, i guess its not terrible, but i want to try for a better score
