Great scores! (New version of ASTB)
Wow, I must say, I am so impressed with the scores you guys have gotten.
I have taken the test as well, and did really bad. I am still trying to recover from the disappointment. I am re-taking the test again next month. But with classes and a full-time job, it seems to be the hardest on earth to get any time to study for this test.
And when I look at you scores, I must say I can not even compete at all.
I have been watching the forum for a while now, and I am very much impressed with the posts and the help everybody offers another.
I wish I would have figured out all of this earlier, but hey, better late than never!
Anyway, I have been struggling for months now to get my recruiter to even give me a hint of whether my package is strong or not.
I must add, I am not the typical applicant. I live in Germany, have never attended any American schools (besides college (online) now), have been a professional investment banker for 5 years now, and to add, the last time I really took a math or physics class was probably 10 years ago!!!
So, I am a bit tainted...but not discouraged from doing it.
However, when I see all you bright minds with your great scores, I feel almost as if I don't have a chance....plus I am fighting the age cut-off soon.
Anyway, I just wanted to share some thoughts on the ASTB, and the whole OCS application process.
It is most definitely more work than I ever thought it would be.
I have been to Boston in August for it already, and must return to Chicago for the re-take of ASTB next month....
Sorry if this post is boring, but I just wanted to share some thoughts. I never actually have time to log on and read more than 2-3 posts, but tonight I took some time.
Oh, and btw.....has anybody taken the computer version of the ASTB test yet?
I studied for the paper exam, and when I got to Boston had to find out it was the computer version. I read somewhere that the alone by taking the computer version the scores go down a bit, as they say its harder.
I don't know if that is true, since I have not taken the paper one yet (which I will do in November, and I will let you know what the difference is).
But I have to say the computer version seems a lot longer and harder than any of the prep books. The comments about the spatial stuff are true. The examples in the books are a lot easier than on the test, as the answers given on the test are almost all the same.
As far as the math and mechanical, I found that the test was a lot more in depth than I thought it would be. (maybe the computer version has revised questions????)
Overall, I was not properly prepared. Where I have to say, a lot of it is my fault. I should have known better, and studied harder, since its been so long for me since I have had such classes.
Anyway, like I said I just wanted to share, and if anybody is interested in more, please feel free to reply.....I would love to get a little bit more into this forum.
