Hey Patrick I just took the OAR and did not do so great. Since this was posted 3 years ago is this still an accurate study guide to study? Thanks looking for any help I can get!
I read (skimmed) the blue ASTB book cover to cover over the course of a week and got a 9/9/8 69. Just take time to read the directions and be calm as you answer/respond to the test. I didn't read the directions the first time (was taking it for shts and gigs anyway) and got a 7/4/5 63.
There's also a compass trick for the "target parking lot" questions that worked for some of my friends, but I didn't get the hang of it. Might have been helpful.

I'm on my final attempt at the ASTB in a few weeks in February. Last score was 42 for OAR and 3,4,5 everything else. I have the 2013 study guide from here and a new one my OSO gave me. I got the hang of the UAV compass trick & took advantage of the unlimited allowed practice time to learn how to orient for that section. Tips on everything else anyone? Thanks in advance!

Okay, so I got a 52, 6,7,6. And that's because I studied my BUTT off pretty much 2 or 3 hours a day for a whole month. I was relentless. I taught myself mechanics from the ground up and also math. Here's what I used:
1. Barron's Military ASTB practice test book. (Buy it on amazon and have it shipped to you asap). Take the practice tests until you can get pretty much every question right.
2. Google: "ASTB Mechanical Flashcards" and "ASTB Math Flashcards". There should be several links for each of these. If you can't tell how they solve the problem, look up a YouTube video that corresponds with that problem.

taking the astb for the 3rd time mid march and pretty nervous. been studying for a good while now and my last scores were, OAR:45 , AQR:4, PFAR:6, FOFAR:5.
basically have to make it this next round because i turn 27 in october. if anyone has any current links to help with more of the "trick" word problems for the math section, or any information on the compass trick for the uav portion i would appreciate it. i have all concepts of algebra but still get stumped when its applied to situations.
also just looking for some feedback on my past scores which ive been told have gotten acceptance and denials from the board. just want to know opinions because i've learned that any information about the test at all helps.

If you want this bad enough, you are gonna need to study these like your life depends on it. If you don't want it bad enough, don't bother to keep reading. I'm writing this down because I want you to K.O. This test and have your dream. I scored a 5/6/5 on my first run and I know how it feels to score not as well as you need to!! I improved to 6/7/6 after studying harder and smarter and taking it the second time.
Math: (to practice, write out the problems but change the numbers and work through them with different variables so it readies you for the test. These problems are almost identical to the real test.)

And for the compass trick, take the scrap paper they give you and make a north, south, east, and west cross and then when your taking the test, hold up the compass you just made (in the direction that the screen tells you you're facing) and it will help you orient and know what direction the target is in relation to your position.

Much appreciated! One last question, I know the UAV portion is timed but is it just flat out better for your score to get them correct regardless of how fast you answer it or does your speed account for a large part of your score? most of my issues came from trying to be too fast and quickly realizing my error soon after answering.

Thanks for the links FlyingViking. I understand this post is a few months old but for anyone using this thread as an intro to studying for the ASTB like myself, I would recommend using the topics as a guide to do further research on as I have noticed one or two definitions/explanations seem to be incorrect.
I concur. I found the guides throughout the site are riddled with errors, thus recommendation from myself to others is to use the materials on the site to align you with types of materials/questions you will see on the exam, but study from more official sources.

Hi everyone! Currently studying to retake the OAR portion for my second time. I never took physics so I struggled with that section the most my first time around. So this time I am really focusing on the mechanical portion and learning the material. So far the best resource I have come across is Khan academy. Believe me it is your best friend! Go to the physics section watch all the videos for the sections the test focuses on to get a good understanding of the concepts and work through some of their practice problems.
