I have had people who were NPQ and then were sent home, fixed the issue then went back.

however if you were thinking of going back, doing a DOR was a bad choice.

They won't NPQ you and send you home. They will simply redesignate you, most likely to NFO. The only way he will ever get back to Pilot is to DOR, get PRK, and reapply.

That is not good gouge, at all.

He's too far out of the standard to consider other options. I know of people who were disqualified from Pilot, forced to go NFO, and then redesignated as a pilot in Pensacola. Those people though were just barely disqualified and passed with a better night's sleep and better conditions.

There are medical conditions you will get NPQ for and sent home, hernia is one, a previous injury that flairs up in the first few weeks of arriving can get you sent home as well.

OP was only found NPQ for his designator, not the Navy. He will not be sent home for an astigmatism, he would get redesignated. I'm focusing on the OP's situation, not others.

yes, and as he was found NPQ for SNA he has the choice to not redesignate, if he does not he would have been sent home because he was NPQ for SNA, just like my NRD had, and one who elected for LASIK and then was re-selected.

That must be relatively new then. Everyone I saw who got NPQed for eyes was forced to redesignate to NFO. If they were NPQ for NFO they had to put in for another community. There was no choice to be sent home, it was either take this opportunity to be an officer or DOR.

That was up to 2012 now they could have changed it, @RUFiO181 may have seen other circumstances

Desertflyer is right. I either had the choice to go nfo/another community, or DOR. I know people look down on DORs, but being a pilot is in my blood. I'll get prk/Lasik, wait 6 months, and reapply. All the hard stuff/tests are done, just simply go to meps again and get on with the next available board after the 6 month wait.

Frankly, I'm glad I didn't go nfo. I've heard many horror stories from friends who are both sna and nfo about nfos. I made the right choice in my opinion.

It is sad they don't just let you go home with the NPQ now.

Being NPQ'd for NFO at OCS for some unforseen reason is my big worry right now. If I am however, I know I will just redesignate, but would rather avoid the situation.
