Automobile to Newport?

It's up to you. I was stationed in the DMV before checking into OCS and I thought it was worth the drive. It certainly helped in CandiO phase during libbo when we could escape the base.

If you're too far away, or don't care to explore this country by road, book a flight.
Do you think it would be worth it for SNA people? Since we have such a fast turnaround to get down to Pensacola.

It was worth it for me. There's a "Check-in No Later Than" date on your orders to Pensacola that you MUST meet. It's usually about a week or two after detaching from OCS.

I drove back to my hometown to be with family and friends, then drove to Northern VA (mil home), packed up my essentials, drove 17 hours to Pensacola, and checked in. All in a span of 4 days.

If you're from West of the Mississippi, it might be worth flying to and from OCS, and driving a U-Haul to Pensacola.

I'll be travelling from Ohio. I can fit all my stuff in my car, figured I'd get a bed, etc in Pensacola
