Hi, i'm new to this forum and am currently searching to answers about what i have heard about aviation in the Marines. I am currently a student in college and i met a person with the officer selection program in the Marines, he told me of a program where one can be guarranteed flight school if they pass qualifying tests. After that its up to them to be able to be qualified to become a pilot, but my concern was that can the Military actually guarrantee something like this or is this just a way to get more recruits for whatever they want.

Basically I am just confused on the process and am looking to see if anyone is familiar with any program similar to what i mentioned of being guarrenteed flightschool if tests are passed, and if not one has no obligation to continue with any other field in the Marines.

I am grateful for any advice you can give me or any websites you know of that would go into detail this subject. Please ask me to clarify if i was no coherrant.

Yes, you can get guaranteed aviation - I came in on that myself. However, don't think that your entire time in the Marine Corps is going to be in the cockpit. More than likely, you will do 1 to 3 year non-flying tours on occasion. Also, if you fail out of flight school, you are then assigned another MOS - I believe you return to a ground contract which is either 3 or 4 years.

Orthok, The Marine Corps is the only branch of service where you can earn a spot for flight school while you are still in college. The first step you need to take is contacting your nearest Marine Corps Officer Selction Office. To begin the process of getting a SNA/SNFO contract you need to be physically qualified and to score well on the ASTB. Your OSO will fill you in on the rest.

well passing the qualifying tests is the easy part, the blood, sweat, and tears of the whole thing is getting selected

Well I would say the blood sweat and tears of the whole thing would be OCS, not just getting selected.

Just remember if you a marine pilot you are a marine first. that means you will be trained and expected to know how to fight on the ground.

Charger, with a comment like that, I would say you probably haven't sat in the front seat of a T-34 after a sketchy checkride! Talking about watching your dreams vanish right before your eyes!

I agree with charger. You have to want to serve in the Marines. If all you want to do is fly, go fly in the Airforce, that way you can ride a bike for their fitness test.

Come on guys, Marines are the best!!

Why do most people outside the military think that becoming a marine pilot is easy! Just because they have alot of slots doesn't mean its a walk in da park. TO BE A MARINE YOU MUST BE WILLING TO BE A SOLDIER.

If you are a fighter pilot during your first tour what kind of options are you going to have to for you second billet?? What are the chances that you will be taken off of flight status for a ground billet? Also if you want to eventually be a commericial pilot is the Marines a good way to go??
