I was at OCS this summer (Kilo Co, 3rd plt) during the whole "in the rack after lightsout" deal and while I dont know first hand what caused the sudden change, the extra sleep felt great! We heard the rumor as well about the 110 degree heat case, but you hear so much scuttlebutt at OCS that you never know what to believe. We also heard about all of the Seniors dropping out during their 9 mile hump. Good to finally hear from someone with first hand knowledge about what was causing that.

I couldnt believe how many Candidates I saw drop out during PT because of heat. It definately plays with your head seeing how serious and "real" heat exhaustion is. It was definately VERY hot this summer!

Just going off of what my sgt. instructor told us. Well I wish him the best of luck coming back, but I do know that I never fell out from a heat case, and we were in the same freaking heat as all the other companies. Being a SNCO is freakin outstanding but as SSGT. F. "said that doesnt mean shibopi at OCS." You dont forget where you came from and let your experience help you through it but you are a candidate now trying to be a officer. So being a prior is freakin outstanding but you leave the chevrons across the railroad tracks.

A lot of factors play into falling out in the heat. The strongest Marine can fall out one day when the weakest won't. It's not just about staying hydrated, or being able to take the beating. A LOT of factors play in. E.g., stress, family life, illness, aggrivation, etc... Sometimes they all come together, for whatever reason, and can make the strongest Marine fall out. I mean this as neutral as possible, when I say don't kid yourself about being better than someone who falls out due to heat. Just because you didn't fall out on that 110 day, doesn't mean you won't on a 90 day.

That being said, I don't know the said Marine.

Congrats on Juniors, now get ready to ratchet the intensity up about 500%, cram the 10 week course into 6, and attempt the hardest training you've ever known. Your half way there, stay the course, believe me it is so worth it in the long run. I was asked to stand center stage in my dress blues for a 9/11 ceremony in Boston held by the Boston Fire Dept last week. I held a fire helmet with 343 on it ( # of FDNY guys that died on 9/11 ) Had to stand at attention for about an hour and a half holding it. Couldn't feel my feet after a while..... thought of the 343 fireman that died that day and would have stood there for a week at attention if they asked me to.
My point is, no matter the bull sh** and games down there, no matter how sore your knee's and shins are from running everywhere you go, no matter how good of a time you think all your buddy's are having elsewhere--when you get commissioned you'll finally "get it" and will be on cloud 9 at it will all be more than worth it. Hell you probably will laugh about it, not at the time, but over a few beers later on in life. I did.

Honestly gentlemen, it's time to stop *****ing about OCS. I realize it's the only thing some of us know about our beloved Corps (Myself included) but there are a ton of other Marines in the Sandbox getting shot the hell up in weather that sucks more than OCS. Yes, it was hot, and hard but your joining the friggin' Marine Corps. AKA "The Baddest Mothers in the Valley." Saddle up and focus on the future.

Very true. Its all relative. But also at the same time I dont think that anyone is talking about how hard their life has been or how badass they are for having made it through. compared to being in combat I'm sure OCS isnt ****. It sucked and all that but was kind of fun in a way too. All a big check in the box and thats about it.

OJ killed his ex-wife while I was there. The Sgt Instuctor secured us that evening with words like, "OJ Simpson's on the loose! He's coming to kill you!" We were in our racks, wondering, "What the hell is he talking about?"
Oh sh!t, that's friggin hilarious.

And likewise, it is good to reflect on past experiences.
