I got euchred into attending a two day Nikon seminar in Baltimore 4/4 and 4/5. Thought I would find nice party type hotel in south B’more environs for a short “getaway”. We once had an old haunt up by the “Annex”, long since forgot the name.:(:(

Recommendations?

Given I'm from Baltimore I've never stayed in a hotel downtown, but I think if I did I'd go with the Renaissance. You're right above the Galleria shops, across the street from Harborplace, and close to Fells Point if you want to go bar hopping.

I would think something at the Inner Harbor. (Yum... "Little Italy!") I will call some business friends who work in Baltimore tomorrow, when I get to the office. I’ll send you a PM.

The intercontinental is very nice. I've only stayed there once but we have a business meeting breakfast there every so often. It sits at the end of the harbor so it's not right on top of the inner harbor restaurants and puts you a little closer to bars and restaurants in Federal Hill.

While the Inner Harbor is OK for food (less so now that Capital City Brewing is gone), it's a bit touristy and there are a myriad of great bars and fooderies up in Federal Hill. We particularly like the Metropolitan.

It's a heavy appetizer/light dinner sort of Tapas place.

+1 on the Intercontinental. Very nice hotel and close to everything.

I also agree with the Metropolitan recommendation, although I tend to go there for breakfast.

If you wanted a naval theme with your meal, Hull Street Blues in Locust Point is a good deal. Bar/restaurant and not far away at all from the Harbor although not exactly walkable except on a nice day. Nice to combine with a trip out to Fort McHenry. http://hullstreetblues.com/

I've never stayed in a hotel in B'More since I grew up in Columbia, but being near Federal Hill or Fell's Point would be a good thing.

Anyplace except when you check in it's not through a plexiglass divider with microphone.

Whichever hotel you choose to stay in, make sure to call in and see if they offer military discounts. A good number of them do (ie Westin, Marriott, etc.) so it doesn't hurt to call.

... if they offer military discounts. ... .

Thanks all. Marriott it is. I did check on "military rates", $15 dollars more than the rate they originally offered. This is often the case, soooo when you think you are getting a military discount, make sure, you may be paying a military "premium". Something I learned a long time ago. What I have argued in the past is for the "corporate" rate, that is DOD being the corporation. Often works. I never ever pay full price!

Brownshoe Steve...

you're right on Baltimore's Little Italy and really really good eats. I'd like to check these places out as well!

I'd kill right now for a plate of sausages and peppers from Sabatino's (drool).

I used to be in Baltimore all of the time (SHA is located there), haven’t been down for about 15 years though. I have never tried the places you have linked in your post. They do look interesting though. I always went to, Sabatino's whenever I was in "little Italy."

If you want to make a trip down there let me know, lots of stuff to do in Baltimore. Then, of course have supper someplace in little Italy.

I am up for a trip into "Little Italy", if you do not mind an older guy tagging along. (cough, cough. wheez:eek:) I miss Boston's North End.

Check out Tio Pepe's while you're there, I don't remember what part of town it's in, but the place is amazing.

I'll be in Baltimore for the Army Navy Lacrosse game at Raven's stadium (M&I Bank ?) Got any recommendations for a hotel convenient to the stadium? How about transport. It is a quick trip. If I could take the train/light rail from the airport to hotel and stadium, better still. I have always stayed in the inner harbor area, not familiar with much else.
