I just spoke with the Officer recruiter up where I am and he told me that the BDCP program is a "really sucky program" and one that is only open to students in their last year of college. This information contradicts everything I have heard/read about the program. Can anybody here put me in touch with a recruiter or someone who does know the program?? (or at least if this information is correct set me straight??) At this point I don't even mind talking to someone completely across the country. Thanks!

I'm floored to be honest. BDCP leads to an OCS slot so I don't see what he is getting at unless he one of those ROTC/Academy guys who thinks less of OCS in general. If so, that's an immature attitude. What else did he say to back up that claim?
Directly he asked me what year I was (i'll be done with my sophomore year in 24 days), and then he continued on to say that "no, thats no really ... its a really sucky program, and you enter it within one year of graduation so you wouldnt be eligible." Then he asked me if I had any other interest in the Navy. To tell you the truth he seemed almost annoyed that I asked about the program. Who else could I get in contact with?

I believe that your recruiter was misinformed. BDCP is probably the Navy's best kept secret so that could be understandable. I've never heard of anyone that took the BDCP route that didn't speak highly of BDCP.
If nothing else, you are paid as atleast an E-3 for a couple of years while in college and upon completion of OCS, you are paid as an O-1 OVER TWO. When you make O-2 in two years, you'll be making atleast $600 per month more than someone who just signed up for OCS.
For a recruiter to suggest that BDCP is a "really sucky program" is an insult to all of the outstanding recruiters who have recruited thousands of outstanding young officers through this program.
Bad gouge. You can be within two years of graduation in order to get into BDCP. I had finished my sophomore year when I was in the pipeline (2.5 years of college to go). When I signed my contract, I had 18 months until graduation and OCS. I don't know what ulterior motive he had for telling you that, but if he isn't going to be straight with you, get a new recruiter now. If I sound a little pissed it's because I've played the bum gouge game for a long time and all it did was waste my time, money, and worse, my chances of trying to enter an officer program.

Just to reiterate what was already said, I got into BDCP for a pilot slot 19 months before graduation. To sum it up, BDCP allows you to apply for a job in the Navy and find out if you got it before committing to a job you don't want. You also get paid a ton, get to start your time served clock and also get the GI Bill in the long run.
BDCP is AMAZING.
You can enter BDCP up to 36 months out if you are a technical major (search the term, its been covered), or 24 months prior to graduation if you are a non-technical major. According to what I remember reading/hearing you could NOT enter BDCP 12 months prior, and they would instead give you an OCS slot. However recently, a few people have gotten in under 12 months, so it would seem that rule is changing/changed.
If you can apply for it, by all means get a strong package together and apply early, and often. Good luck.

Hope you can set this recruiter staight. I hate to hear that someone is passing around bad gouge about BDCP to guys that are wanting to apply. It's definately one of the best deals going.

You get paid as if you were an active duty member, so it's up to you what you do with that money. Nothing goes directly to your tuition. However, one less than known perk of BDCP is if you're an out-of-state resident attending a public school, you rate in-state tuition as active duty military.
It doesn't pay tuition directly but what I do is start a payment contract with the university to cover what my loans and scholarships don't. The money is removed from my account a few days after my BDCP pay comes in. Thus, BDCP pays for my college tuition.
