There's nothing that says you can't apply to both, but BDCP is a Navy program, and PLC is Marine Corps...I don't know if that changes anything for you, but it might.

A BDCP application is idenitical to any other OCS app. It includes all post secondary (undergrad, and grad) transcripts, ASTB scores, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.

Thank you for replying.

This is another thing I'll still a little confused about. If you are accepted for BDCP do you immediately become part of the Naval Reserve as an E-3? When you are accepted for BDCP are there meetings or drills you have to attend before going to OCS?

If I went into the USMCR before college and was a drilling Marine for the first two years of college, and was accepted for BDCP would I be released from my USMCR unit?

I know that with NROTC, your freshmen and sophmore years you do not need to sign a contract with the Navy or accept a scholarship, however after your junior year you accept a contract with the Navy and become a scholarship student. If I took NROTC classes my freshmen and sophmore year and applied for BDCP, would that have any effect on my application for BDCP? Also, if I applied for BDCP during my sophmore year but wasn't accepted, then I could just apply for a pilot slot through NROTC right? Would that work the other way around too? Meaning if I wasnt accepted for a pilot slot with NROTC could I apply for BDCP during my junior or senior year of college?

Thank you again for replying.

#1 yes you are immediately in the navy as an e-3
#2 no formal drills, but every month or 6 months (dependent on recruiter) you get together with everyone in the BDCP program from your area and to a mock-PFA (PRT) to make sure you are keeping in shape
#3 i dont think you can be in the MC reserves and still apply for the BDCP... you cant be in both and your contract with the MC takes precedence because it was made first, right? but i dont know...
#4 why would you want to do all the NROTC stuff and then get in the BDCP later and not have to do any NROTC stuff for two years? why wouldnt you just stay in NROTC all the way? i think the navy looks at determination in that respect, once you start something, do you complete it? or do you just look for a different thing and do that?

Thank you for replying.

I was told that with the Marine Corps PLC you can apply for it even if you are in the Marine Corps Reserve, then after you complete OCS the summer after you junior year you would be releasted from your USMCR contract. I was thinking BDCP might be the same be I could be wrong.

I wanted to do NROTC for several reasons to learn leadership and learn about how the Navy operates. I want to be a pilot and I was trying to look at the best way to go about doing that. I was looking at applying for BDCP and if I get accepted then that'd be great. If not I could still apply for a SNA slot in NROTC. The only reason I would stop doing NROTC after doing it for two years is if I was accepted for the BDCP, otherwise I would continue doing NROTC.

Do you know if it is possible to apply for BDCP during your junior or senior year of college?

Thank you again for replying.

yeah that is when you apply for BDCP. you apply when you have 2 years left of college. you fill out a degree completion plan that outlines your classes over the next two years to ensure you graduate. (some technical majors get 3 years to finish)

A long-ass time. I started my application in February, turned it in sometime around the end of March when applications opened back up, and was sworn into the Navy on July 28. Good luck.

Thank you for replying.

So it took about 4 months to find out right? Do you know if this is normal amount of time it takes for a BDCP application to go threw?

Also, which year of college did you apply?

Thank you again for replying.

I applied as a junior. As far a a normal time, I don't think there is one. Some people have waited a few weeks and others have waited over 6 months. There's not a good way to predict - all you can do is apply and wait. Kinda sucks but that's how the Navy works.

I am considering the BDCP. I have been told that once in the program, you are paid as an E-3 with benefits, but I don't know how much this equates to. Could someone please clarify. Thanks

I get about $2000 per month. Some of that is your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) which varies with your zip code. It's probably more money than you know what to do with if you're still in school and you aren't financing your own education.

bcgeib, just out of curriosity, what college did you go to and what was your major? Also, if you don't mind, could you give infomation about things like GPA, PRT, ASTB ect. I'm just trying to see what kind of a candidate the selection board is looking for.

Thank you for replying.

When applying for SNA, does the board prefer that you also apply for BDCP as well, or do they care. my recruiter told me they do, but i wasnt sure. i just sent in my package today as BDCP for SNA. if anyone can shed a little light, that'd be great. also, anyone heard back at all recently? thanks...
