Best (cheapest) way to ship large packages

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with shipping large/heavy boxes. I don't care how long it takes. I really just want a cheap and somewhat reliable way to get a couple of heavy boxes across the country. Unfortunately, they are not books, or I could use media mail.

Thanks!

Must...resist....urge... Oh, what the hell. Moving heavy packages? I usually just put on some jeans.

All kidding aside, I'm not sure there really IS a good way to ship heavy boxes like that. I mean, aside from using my little brother's FedEx corporate account, that is. If you want something moved without it getting AFU, then I'm pretty sure you're going to have to pay a bit for it.

To make this applicable to something military... try mailboxes etc. Had to send a package to a friend of mine in Iraq with a lotta stuff in it, they put it all together for me and sent it on its way. Not that 280 dollars was that cheap, but keep in mind it was a 40lb box going to Iraq within 10 days.

When I moved from Hawaii, I had to ship about 40lbs of stuff that either the movers missed or I needed in my transient state. I went to the local shipping place on base and they sent it UPS for about $80. I'm sure the rates aren't any different if you don't have access to a base. I also had to ship it via air, or it would probably still be stuck in the Port of Long Beach.

@Mules:

I've seen that pic before and yet, it doesn't get old.

If you get bored and need to make sure she would be the right mover for you, go to google and search under images "ups girl"

Back in the day, we used to ship stuff via Greyhound bus. They usually have all kinds of extra room in their cargo compartments. Give them a call to see if they still do that.

Sorry for the quick threadjack, but it's Mules' fault:

Damn you Mules. I was content w/ the one or two pics I've seen, but now I learn there's a whole series? But of course all the links are broken. People have no consideration for free pinups.
