Best IWC Fit?

do a search for PERS-472 on facebook, that is the best resource for looking at your stats, during the last board between IP and CWO there were 16 selected and only one had a non-stem degree (they way it used to be defined is if your degree had a year of calc and calc based physics it was considered STEM)

if you go for the odds you would go for INTEL as #1 and CWO as #2, those 2 designators have the most billets available per year.

My NRD put in IP's that went right to a ship, one of the command ships, and we have put in CWO's that did their entire obligation and never left the US, you never know how things will change.
Thanks, I appreciate the information! Am I wrong for wanting to concentrate on one designator that I would be a good fit for? I know I have a better chance of being selected if I choose a few, but what if I don't want to do anything but CWO, for example. Why apply for something I might not want?

You can apply for what you want, but look at the odds, with a non STEM degree odds are nearly non existent.

The board will determine what you are a best fit for if you list the top 2 or 3, in most cases what is seen is the best fit for IP and CWO are STEM degrees.

I know and I'm ok with it. We talked about that this weekend, actually. I was stationed on USS Cole 10 years after the bombing, so I got plenty of reminders of the risks.

Who were your CO's on the Cole? The ones I know may have been before your time.

Cybersecurity is not considered a STEM degree?

CDRs Devinney and Ehelrs were the COs when I was there. CDR Bienkowski was the XO when I left. I only remember him because we went to the same high school.

They were probably better than the two that I encountered, I met the ones I knew on their subsequent tours.

We were told STEM had to include at least a year of calc and physics so if yours did I guess I would consider it STEM.
Interesting, I guess I assumed Cybersecurity was considered STEM. The CWO program authorization from https://www.navycs.com/officer/informationwarfareofficer.html states, "Minimum of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution is required. Major fields of study directly related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are most strongly preferred but not required. An undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or greater is required. Completion of calculus sequence (Calculus I and Calculus II) and calculus-based physics sequence with a C average or better is preferred but not required."

They separate the calculus and physics part from the STEM part.

It looks like they got rid of the specific schools requirement, too. Is this information up to date? I'll reach out to my recruiter.

A STEM degree that they list will include calc and physics, there are many that take calc and physics that decide to go in a different direction, it is just there to kind of give an indication of what else to look for.

specific schools requirement never existed for CWO, it did for CWE or what some called CW, the name change I think has caused confusion on this.

Sorry, I meant that they got rid of the specific schools requirement for CWE. It is not mentioned in the CWE Program Authorization. I'm too old for that program anyway.

I doubt it, they didn't have the requirement and weren't getting what they needed so they specified the schools, not everything will be in the PA.
