Cover up.. Dunno.. But certainly doesn't pass the smell test..

What about it doesn't pass the 'smell test'? That it doesn't fit some kind of preconceived notion of what you thought it was? Because....Obama?

Makes sense to me. Shutting the throttle off with a stuck trigger is a little goofy, but not impossible. After that the procedure would be to shutoff the throttle for an air start. But based on his positioning and energy state he was f'ed anyways.

The guy at JQPublic wrote a pretty ridiculous posting about it, then got rightfully schooled in the comments section by several Viper drivers. His take - Obama's fault.

Just read it. Definitely a C-17 pilot talking out of his swim lane.

Even the folks at BaseOps have had their fill of him, and for them that says something.

Edit: The moron didn't even RTFR, either that or he failed comprehend it. Hard to believe this guy was a CO.

Because....Obama?
What does that mean? Is that comment there just for some kind of reaction? My point is they are talking a lot about a throttle switch and zero about pressing past bingo and (hypothetically) running out of gas..

Last comment on the point.. If he was truly low fuel, I don't care anything about switches and restarts, blah, blah and as for blame, the Aircraft Commander is to blame.. And if the switch is in fact to blame, I don't know how "the best of best, 1700 hour Viper guy" fucks this away

PS: I don't read base ops. I prefer to talk to more "reasonable" folks which this place used to be until it was high jacked by a bunch of know it all, my way or the highway folks.. And the exceptional amount of one liners and name calling with those don't agree in the last year or so..

Merry Christmas.. I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on...

JQPublic (Tony Carr) has/had the potential to serve the wider AF community with some badly needed self-assessment and reflection. Unfortunately, he started to believe his daily page-hit stats were the most important metric, not quality content. He now comes across as a whiny bitch.

In this case Tony is punching above his weight class and now that he's been called out, he's assumed the role of the frog holding fast to the heron's neck:

You should read the AAIB report, it addresses everything you mention in there. His fuel was relatively low but not at emergency and apparently not unusual, especially for the Thunderbirds. As a matter of fact his fuel state fuel had nothing to do with the accident at all, he inadvertently shut the engine down at a very low altitude and couldn't restart it in time. The simple fact that he stayed with the jet and tried to restart it was notable because he was below the min altitude for a restart, the first step for an engine failure/shutdown at the altitude he was at is apparently 'Eject'.

The Obama quip was addressing the folks who are blaming him for the accident because the graduation ceremony went long.

PS: I don't read base ops. I prefer to talk to more "reasonable" folks which this place used to be until it was high jacked by a bunch of know it all, my way or the highway folks.. Oh and an exceptional amount of one liners and name calling with those don't agree in the last year or so..

This is nothing, things have calmed down considerably from just a few years ago.

Marry Christmas.. I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Fair enough.. You obviously have access to reports that I do not.. How about next time I use "in my opinion". The story to me sounds fishy and I will leave it at that..

I do stand by my observation in the uptick of snide remarks and lack of respect of opinions of others here....

Cheers to cold beer; and warm Christmas morning...

I've seen the T-Birds and the Blues swap out jets in the middle of a demo. Also I'm assuming they can hot re-fuel. This is getting silly............but Obama.
