Brother's wedding- uniform?

So to all of you with some military conduct knowledge, can you help me out with one question? My brother's wedding is in November. I will obviously be one of the groomsmen. He asked me whether or not active military folk would wear their dress whites in that case. I said probably not. I have a feeling that would be inappropriate. What is the official consensus on this?
Oh, and take it easy on my ignorance... I'm still pre-OCS!

I wouldn't. Don't want to upstage the bride's day (groom is just an accessory really).
 
I have been to several weddings in dress whites and it was fine each time. I did, however, ask the bride and several from the brides camp if it were a problem first.
After having re-read your post, you are a groomsman; where what the groom wants, it's his fiancee's wedding. It is perfectly acceptable for a military member to wear a tuxedo, or whatever outfit the bride planned, to participate in a wedding.
 
My groomsmen wore their dinner dress blues, and guest wore SDBs. You want to match whaterver everyone else is wearing, so if the rest of the groomsmen are in suits, wear SDBs, and if theyre wearing tuxes, either wear your dinner dress blues or just rent the same tux. I'd only wear chokers if all the other groomsmen were wearing them too. If everyone is wearing white tuxes, I guess the chockers would be fine, but the dinner dress white would be better if you have the cash.

This is the best advice. Please leave it up to your soon-to-be sister-in-law. I'd be willing to bet that she cares about it more than you or your brother do and she probably already has an answer in mind.
 
Ok, I had 3 different uniforms at my wedding...you can to!

I would concur with this. Or wear just a suit. Remember that it's the bride's day. If the bride is liberated enough, she'll let her groom decide what you should wear. If your groom doesn't care, then do what you want.

Recommend the tux, not the dinner dress blue...it'd be the antithesis of "uniform" if you are the only stand out.

Be careful of this. Talk to the groom and ask his bride. If she's wearing an off-white dress...it'll look yellow in the pictures with you all. My wife was potentially horrified of this...so our sword arch wore the chokers.

As for either dinner dress uniform for a pre-commission??? I'd totally recommend against that. It's expensive and you're going to grow horizontally before O-4, which is when the uniform is required (unless you are a celebration participant).

In the end there are no "uniform standards for weddings" so it can be as you like (as long as you are sticking to the actual uniform regulations). I wore White tie Dinner Dress. My sword arch wore chokers, my other military guests wore whites. It worked out great.

I'm going through this as we speak. I even bought the yankee white trousers to go with my blues. Nope...the fiance wants to wear an "off-white" dress. Back to dress blue trousers for me.

What is it with off-white dresses these days? Doesn't that reflect on the virtue of the bride?:icon_wink
 
NavyVance, i assume i'll be in the same position. I'm definitely going to defer to my brother and his fiancee. I doubt one is more comfortable than the other anyway!
 
You will never go wrong by asking the bride what she wants. Always remember that, in the end, this is her wedding, and the groom is only up there so she doesn't look silly standing at the altar by herself. The reason all the groomsmen dress the same is in case the groom doesn't show up.

Unless you're doing a sword arch or whatnot, skip the uniform. Don't steal the thunder from the bride and groom.
 
Random question for you guys, specific for me, has anyone, ever, used a sword (with belt, gloves) with summer whites? Maybe OCS guys?
