BUMED Wait

Well after going back and fourth trying to get cleared for meps, it was finally decided that my medical file had to be sent to BUMED. That was about 6 weeks ago. The only reason why they have it is because i was taking perscription medication, w/o any side effects or anything like that, but of course they tripped about it. 6 WEEKS!? why do they take so long? Is that typical of that agency or whatever it is? APPLY EARLY AND OFTEN is the rule of thumb for PLC selection...so this 6 weeks is killing me.

I was denied a MEPS appointment because of a medical condition I had. I had to have a doc send them a letter saying I was asymptomatic of something I put down on the medical request form or whatever. I had to wait for BUMED to approve me to come to MEPS. It was a hassle and it didn't end with my going to MEPS, but it all worked out in the end. Be diligent and find out what's going on. If you haven't heard anything in 6 weeks, I'd be on the phone finding out what the hold up is. If nothing has happened in 6 weeks you might have fallen through the cracks or you're under a pile of paperwork somewhere. Just give a call in to your recruiting office and be polite and firm in finding out what the deal is. This application process is a weeding-out process in and of itself.

Good luck!

Was that the "chronic" condition you mentioned in an earlier post? :D

rep...and NO! It was some stupid blood condition I had when I was like 4. Apparently being asymptomatic for 16 years isn't good enough even with a doctor's note. They had me do another blood test just to be sure.

THC, a blood-borne pathogen transmitted by ingestion or through the respiratory system. Symptoms include dryness of mouth, confused mental state, appetite stimulation and a tendency to annoy others with inane observations about one's surroundings.

From Wikipedia:

ITP occurs most often in women over 40 years of age. It may be acute, lasting for 6 months or less, or chronic, lasting for over a year. The acute type is more often seen in children and will cure itself in more than 80% of cases. The chronic type is more commonly seen in adults and it tends to get worse as the disease progresses.

Joboy, you got some splainin' to do!

HMMM still no word since ive last posted on this subject...which was over a week ago i believe. Everytime i call the oso office all they have for me is "we havent heard anything yet." do you think they are blowing me off? if they didnt want me id expect them to be straight up, but my BUMED file was sent up around the 4th of november and here we are in January with nothing?

Is it January already? ;)

So you haven't done MEPS yet? When I did MEPS they wanted paperwork on my eyes and knee waivers only 4 days before hand. 6 weeks sounds like something got lost.

Great example of the efficiency of government beauracracy...If the OSO office said they haven't heard anything yet, then they most likely haven't. You had a couple big holiday periods between then and now. That might be a large part of it. Hopefully now that the holiday season is over you will see some progress on your stuff.

Like was stated...they most likely haven't heard anything. They don't get "credit" for you until you check into a training company at OCS. Getting you there is in their best interest.

I had nothing abnormal in my physical and it took about 2 months to get through BUMED. Just be patient.

I got MEPS, my application, all of that done back in November 2006. The've since passed me over two boards because of a small eye issue that turned out to be nothing. I gotta know If I have a job!
