I graduate and commission in two days, but I just found out that I won't be going to TBS until OCT07 :icon_rage

My OSO is looking into active duty - special work for me until I start TBS, but he said not to count on it. Other than that he said I could do PTAD, but that's only for August and September.

Guess I'll have to fall back on my degree :icon_tong

Anyone else have a long wait before TBS? What did you do in that time?

You could always start on a Grad degree, that could help toawrds future promotion. Anyways, sorry to hear about the delay, but I am sure you will find good way's to keep yourself busy. :)

That is a pretty long wait. I commissioned 09DEC , and have a TBS report date of 05 APR....you can do PTAD for a maximum of 60 days (thats the word I've been reading and been told) so that could take 2 months of waiting out...

Because it sounds this way...

Do Marines not get paid if there is a gap between commissioning and reporting to TBS or another follow-on school?

Nope, they get paid... More than likely, he'll do some PTAD somewhere, check into Mike Company and work there for a while, or get stashed somewhere else after he checks in.

Don't get too bummed - Once you check into Mike Company, if someone gets injured they can roll you into his/her slot. I had several buddies that were supposed to start Fox Company with me, and because of injuries started with Echo Company.

Well to clarify, we only get paid if we are working (PTAD, etc).

I have a question though, how could I do PTAD and then check into M Co and then work there for a while? I was told that PTAD is only for the 60 days prior to your TBS report date. That led me to believe it was either one or the other; you either check in early or you do PTAD. Is that incorrect? I'd check in to Mike Company in February if I could, but somehow I don't think they would let me.

A bunch of guys did it when I was waiting to start. They'd do 60 days PTAD, then immediately thereafter check into Mike company and sit on their hands until they started. Usually, after being in Mike company for a while, they'd farm them out to other places (for the air guys, HMX-1 was a popular choice). If they've changed it, you probably have to check in to Mike first, then go PTAD.

And just curious, who's telling you that you only get paid if you're "working"?? Correct me if I'm wrong, but commissioning date=Pay Entry Base Date=you get paid.

Hmm, I'll ask my OSO about that, but I was under the impression that PTAD was only for the 60 days directly prior to TBS check-in. Thanks for the info though, it's another lead to follow.

As far as not getting paid, pretty much everyone has told me that. My OSO told me to find a job, because I wouldn't be getting paid. In fact, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone say contrary.

Oh yeah, my PEBD was two years ago; the day I checked in to OCS.

I worked for the TSA for a few months prior to TBS, kind of a fun job and you get some PT out of it lifting all those bags.

I think OCC guys are paid once commissioned but not PLC guys.

This is true. I commissioned in May '99 and didn't go to TBS until November '99. I didn't get paid one cent until I started my 60 days PTAD at my OSO immediately before going to TBS. Before that, I flipped pizzas and cooked cheesesteaks. Great job for a college grad. I never worked with Mike company, not sure how that works.
