C-130 Question

Before everyone just rips into me, this isn't a question about what my chances are for getting an particular airframe. I know basically the hierarchy decides that, I just wanted to see what people thought about the C-130 and how many marine aviation contracts would actually prefer the airframe if they could choose?

From what I have seen, just about everybody in our community wanted to be here. It was either #1 or #2 on their wish list. It's a very competitive community to get into due to the low number of slots. Timing is probably the biggest factor. There is no min NSS to fly Hercs, but if you want to fly em you will have to do well in primary. Let me know if you have any questions.

I want Hercs (bout to start primary) I have a buddy that I went to IFS with that wants Hercs pretty bad. But, it does seem that the majority of people I have talked to either want jets or skids. So...yea. There are folks out here that want to fly the mighty KC-130.

Tell them to wipe off the koolaide mustache and explore all options. Many of them will not be good enough to get either.

You know as wells anybody that most people are more than accepting of what they get assigned. In Marine aviation, every possible platform is a win. It's just that when people ask you what you want, you're going to tell them.

Stop acting like everybody has a hard-on over only what they prefer and no others. You know most people aren't that naive.

Um, go to flight school, then talk to me. I hope everyone gets what they want, but it doesn't happen. I've seen Marines on the verge of tears for not getting what they wanted. Not everyone, but it happens more often then you'd think. It makes me sick. It's called "service" for a reason.

Wanting Hercs it not exactly drinkin the Koolaid ... its just about as far from the typical yut-yut-devil-dog-get-some-kill Marine Corps that you can get while still being "in".

That being said, we have a wide variety of missions (aerial refueling, personnel/cargo air drops, log runs, battlefield illum, rapid ground refueling, and soon CAS, to name a few, all done at day or night, good or shitty WX, from high and low altitude) that are going on in the background, upon which many Marines are depending.

Phrog - sorry I can't put DASC on the list, I talked to the 3D MAW CG and told him to work on it. He will be getting back to me.

I've heard rumors that they've designed and/or built an adapter to plug the UYQ-3A into the J, but I don't know how valid that rumor is...

My god... I never in a million years thought Id be giving him positive Rep but it happened...

And yes there are "those guys" in flightschool that if they got something would go home and cry and maybe hang themselves because its not the shit kicking whatever they wanted from day 1 of putting there packet together.

I know plenty of guys in my class that have sat at home day dreaming of the bitchen cool missions they will someday fly in the Apache, Hawk, or 58D. (Nobody wants to be a 47 pilot, or at least nobody admits it) Hell one guy has a O6 dad that flew what he wants (Apache). Think it wont be a big deal if he ends up the back end of his class (hes already working on it) and the selection drops 5 guns and anybody below the top 10 slots are taking all the lift slots that are left.

Thats why I know Im fine. I want a Littlebird and I know it. I dont give a damn what they give me in the mean time to get there.

We haven't gotten any word on it, but if anything comes to fruition I'll let you know.

Not so much being shut down as knowing which fights I even have a shot at winning around here. He's now a made man.

And these guys that are driven to tears about selection, I actually have a morbid sense of curiosity to see which of the motards they will be when the time comes.
