C-130 Question

Ask me about ninjas!
Uh, hate to break it to you, but we don't have any more UYQ-3As anymore. In fact, we sent our last one to Crane a couple weeks ago. There are a few -3Bs, and those are the ones with the J compatibility issues. But even if there were readily available UYQs, and the legendary adapter, the Marine Corps has essentially decided that the whole mission will now be pretty much the exclusive domain of MASS-4 (4th MAW). Which is unfortunate, considering the capability that DASC(A) brings to the fight.

I guess I dated myself...

I'm with you, that DASC(A) is a capability we should have. I guess once the higher ups realize, the Reserves will be tapped even more...

I agree. Especially with our current battleground. VHF is good, but it doesn't burn through mountains. Not only should every MASS squadron have the capability, but the gear should be something more the size of the ABCCC box rather than the broom closet UYQ-3. I guess a bigger box would just mean bigger fires in the comm lot when they're trying to work on it though.

Greetings,

(Disclaimer )Hopefully I do not get set on fire. I could not find info on the search option.

I was wondering if there was any pubs/lit on Marine pilots with the Herc? Internet search only came up with info on the plane it self or directed me back to this site. From the little I read on this site the place to be is Herc. Everyone at my station wants to be Jet pilots...So our OSO has only got Jet pilots (Hornet, & Prowler) to visit and speak with us. No Herc love in socal :(.

Wow. If only there were Hercs in SoCal...

A boy can have a dream, right?

Gnar, since you added your disclaimer ... (kinda like saying "with all due respect", I guess) I'll answer any questions you got.

Yeah - I dream that you guys would quit delaying my takeoffs because you are on a 20-mile final with a dreaded 3-engine landing. :)

(Just kidding. I love Hercs, especially your RGR...which, due to the markedly NON-rapid nature of the process, proves that Meatloaf was right when he said that 'Two Out of Three Ain't Bad.')

Hey, we never know when we might lose a second eng, and if we have #3 & #4 shutdown, the coffee doesn't come out of the pot correctly ... priorities man.

And with regards to RGR, I don't believe in helo aerodynamics and the day your luck runs out I want to make sure I can still have time to run away when I see you lose control of that whirling shitcan of death (even if you are taxiing on the deck) and go plowing into 50,000 lbs of Herc and gas ... so I like it sloooooooooow. :icon_wink

Truth!

At least you'll go out with a warm pot of coffee.

Just make sure the VMGR Butt Pirate flag that you guys insist on hoisting in the fuel pits is flying in all its glory when my luck runs out.
