ok so this would cause your ground speed to be rather high but the way i see it is that there would be no change in AIRspeed/air flowing around the wing which is what ultimatly matters in generating lift with a wing...i guess you could take off on the conveyor but it would take the same distance, in no case could it take off vertically...correct me if im wrong.....

Firedude...the takeaway here is that generally, if you have to look it up to make your point, there is someone better equipped to make the point.

No offense intended...just food for thought.

As for the takeoff...don't forget the assumptions that those performance numbers assume...namely that the aircraft is on a stationary runway...40knots of wind over the bow makes a HUGE difference in takeoff roll.
