What’s up everybody, wanted to share some things and provide information about myself for feedback and to possibly help future candidates with similar circumstances.

Major negative: Have DWI on record, got it last July (2024). Completed everything from fines to community service. Took voluntary class to help this process too. Lowest level DWI (5) and misdemeanor. Only charge on record.

Positives: 3.85 undergraduate GPA (English) & 3.95 current Graduate school GPA (Business Administration). Will graduate with that on May 9th.
Played football four years at university and was a resident assistant. Currently work for a Soup Kitchen (working with homeless community) and worked as a graduate assistant at the university attended. 50 OAR score and no disqualifications at MEPS.

Package has been sent and recruiter has been positive throughout the whole process. Applying for AMDO first. If it gets denied, I am not sure if I should enlist or go reserves. I want to serve and have a feeling of dread and guilt if I do not. For those in AMDO community, or if anyone has anything to share, what are my odds with the DWI? How are conduct waivers currently going right now? I have read that one should not enlist with a Master’s degree yet serving is something I wish to do. I have heard from parents, friends, and everyone I know, so I would like to hear from strangers.

I appreciate anything from anyone. Whether it be advice, tips, or telling me I’m an idiot, I appreciate what you have to say. It means a lot, thank you.

Welcome to the forum. Before diving in, I'd highly recommend searching through existing threads; there's already a lot of useful info out there about AMDO, conduct waivers, and alternative pathways.

Next, Google the AMDO Program Authorization (PA). It’s the official document that outlines all the requirements and waiver policies — It's straightforward and a critical read for anyone applying.

To manage expectations: AMDO candidates are typically drawn from current or prior-enlisted aviation maintenance professionals — especially significant Fleet experience.

If AMDO doesn’t work out, consider exploring other designators.

In closing please use the forum’s search function. Odds are your question — or a version of it — has been asked and answered many times. There’s a lot of wisdom buried in these threads, so take the time to read and research.

Best of luck.

Why AMDO? Honestly they are very selective, it wouldn't surprise me if they decline right away with that DUI.

Reserve Officer is for those that have several years of work experience in the field they are applying for, that isn't you.

Look at other officer programs and those that will be forgiving of a recent DUI, that would be SWO. A DUI is a DUI the USN doesn't care if your state says it is the lowest level or mid level, they will care if it was a felony DUI.

Don't enlist unless you want to delay being an officer.
