Nothing encourages sound discussion like knowing that no matter what you say (or number you choose), Brett will say you're wrong. Since of course, his opinion is always better than anyone else's. Silly me, I thought Moderators were supposed to encourage users of this site. Oh well.
You’re wrong because your information is several decades stale. It has nothing to do with my opinion. Last time you were read into an acquisition s program was when Reagan was president. Nostalgic for sure, but not relevant in any way.

And it continues. Lord Brett has decreed that the vast preponderance of forum participants are "not relevant in any way" because they are not currently employed with the topic subject. And do you seriously believe that my opinion on the capabilities of the Chinese is based solely on what I knew in the '80s, with no further current information? You just can't admit that people are allowed an informed opinion, geez, maybe they even stay up to date by in-depth study and discussion outside of AW.

When was the last time you were read into a SAP acquisitions program in N98’s portfolio?

You just don't give up.
So what you are saying is that unless one is on active duty or currently an GS and actively working acquisitions. then they have no place speaking on any of these issues.
That should narrow this down to you and your cheerleader.
How narrow sighted can one be? Who knows, but I'm sure you'll continue to show us the way.
I have a totally foreign concept for you to try, educate instead of denigrate.

No, I’m saying that unless your views are “fully informed” at the appropriate classification level then you have no place speaking on any of these issues… at least not with any credibility. Not recognizing that, or understanding that one’s experience or knowledge is stale is it’s own fascinating form of hubris, isn’t it?

What an elitist point of view.
I guess we can close down most of these threads since the vast majority of members on AW would not meet your bar standard.
To summarize, 1) no current classification = shut up, 2) you must be "fully informed", whatever that means or... shut up, 3) assume that if Brett is speaking he is always "fully informed" or else he would accept that he has "no place speaking" on that issue.
FOR REAL?!?! You have tossed discussion aside. Why even have a forum?

And I'm at a loss as to how a discussion on Chinese aviation became a who's are bigger on acquisitions.
If you wish to continue telling me to shut up, please do so via DM and not continue to bore the other readers of this thread.

Lets get back to the thread, thoughts and opinions (since none of us know for sure) on Chinese aviation capabilities.

I have to say I’m kind of the opposite on this. I generally don’t speak about topics that I do have deep knowledge of to avoid spillage.

I’m just being civil here, because “Hey, STFU old man because you have no idea what you’re talking about” didn’t seem like a nice thing to say. 😀
Thank you for taking this to DM, oh wait, you're continuing to air this publicly.
Of course the smiley face makes it all OK now.
Please, get back to the topic, which also should have room for opinion and discussion.
Seriously, I really am looking to see some information that helps the readers understand what may be going on in China.

This as a follow up to the posting of "What's your background and basis for analysis?" is not productive to a strong discussion.

The fact that an opinion is openly expressed, allowing us to respond with our opinion, is what these forums are all about.
To add some context to my original query: I did not then, nor have I since, criticized @Llarry - not in this thread, nor in the reply I sent to his PM. I was simply seeking (to the extent he chose to share) to learn a little more about his background to put his analysis into some sort of perspective. There was not any animus intended toward him. I also look at the links/references at the bottom of wikipedia articles 🤷‍♂️

Now retired Captain @Brett327, outside of naval aviation and wine entrepreneur, will soon be eligible for the " STFU old man you are clueless" retort, like many of us.
Brett, welcome to the club. And don't let anyone try to fool you, getting old really sucks.

Absolutely. We should all recognize when our experience is stale. I've been out of the TACAIR world for three years, and even that amount of time puts me well behind the bleeding edge of capabilities and TTPs.
