Classy Hotel Joint

I'm moving down to pcola in two weeks and am trying to find a hotel for the first couple nights until I can get a new bed. My girlfriend will be travelling with me and leaving after the weekend. Any suggestions for a hotel that won't break the bank but still make her feel like I'm spending some money on her?

I wouldn't count on it.

Many of the nice hotels were near the water and were still undergoing repairs from Ivan, who knows whats going on after Dennis. Lots of contractors and people whose houses were unlivable were living in the other ones, long term. When i checked in in March there was only one place that i could get a room for the 4 days i needed it. Things may have changed somewhat, but with this recent storm I doubt it.

You may want to call the Navy Lodge and try your luck there.

Good freakin' luck!

I just went through the same thing, only all I wanted was a room for one night before I closed on my house. There was not a single motel/hotel that had a vacancy I could find (that I would want to stay in, anyway). I even had some gouge of a brand new Hampton Inn opening up by Unveristy Mall. The weren't taking reservations yet, so I knew I was good. I was calling about every 6-12 hours for two days. I called at 8am, no reservations...called at 3pm, they were completely booked. Grrr...

Basically the Navy lodge isn't taking anyone. You might be able to make a case for getting a room in the Q, since you're single and don't have anywhere else to go. Whatever you do, don't mention or even show your girlfriend to the front desk. Just have her wait in the car.

I was PCS'ing, so my orders might be a bit different than yours, but basically I ended up w/ a room at the NASWF Q in a back-up room with the understanding I wasn't staying long (one night). Apparently the studs get priority, second only to the Intl studs. Most of WF Q rooms are out of commision thanks to Dennis.

Good luck, and start calling early.

EDIT: Oh, if the P'cola Q gives you the business about not having any room for you, don't hesitate to escalate it and call up the Schools command duty officer (usually a stud waiting to start). There's no reason they should expect you to live in your car.

I am going down to Pensacola next weekend (for a friend's birthday and a winging party) and the only hotel that I could find that was not all booked up or closed was the Holiday Inn University Mall off I-10. According to the website, there is still availability.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Not even 5 minutes later...my page refreshed and now says there is no availability. Sorry. :(

That's not such a bad idea --- always --- to take it above the BOQ front desk and manager if you think they are jacking you around. Several years ago --- the front desk @ NAS Key West-Trumbo Point was giving me the run-around --- real jerks --- plenty of room but they wanted me to play the "check-out-check-in" game every day ... I was an O-5 on vacation ..... I said "Double B.S." and called the base XO.

The result? I ended up in the VIP suite for the next 12 days ..... every situation is different --- but you can take gator's and my input for what it's worth. :) .... There's just not enough ALOHA in this world .....

Or as we called it when I was back on the island (damn, that's depressing to write...) "F'aloha." I'll leave the F to your imagination, but a prime example of F'aloha was $6 for milk, $2.50 for gas (back when that wasn't normal), or freeway speeding cameras. :)

EXACTLY !!! And since I've gotten older, I've decided to start using the "F" word a LOT more than I used to .... I think it's a sign of confidence and maturity :)) ). Actually, the "F-word" is so versatile .... it's a noun, a verb, an adjective, .... why, you can use it for almost EVERTHING and in every situation !!! Yes ???

In fact, to me, "F" is a lot LIKE "ALOHA" .... in the sense that "ALOHA" can also be used for many things and has many "additional" meanings and nuances .... so, for me, "F" has become a lot like "ALOHA" ..... the crews in Honolulu even took to calling me CAPT ALOHA --- good times. And if I ever say "ALOHA" to you ..... well, ALOHA !!! ..... you get the picture.

ALOO-O-O-O-O-O-HA !!!

Either of the Ashton Inns on Navy Blvd 3 miles from the main gate are good. Stay away from the Comfort Inn Correy Station. That place is way ghetto and there was a large, bloodsucking terydactyl buzzing around our room one night the size of a bat. Ashton is the way to go.

Got a reservation at La Quinta Inn. Thanks for all the suggestions, everything was booked though. As far as girls needing money spent on them, I think they must teach em that when theyre young. Even "low(er) maintnance" chicks are the same.

I PCS'd down about a month ago and stayed in the Navy Lodge no problem. It's pretty nice, being right on the beach and all. Also we got free air shows every morning with the Blue Angels practicing right over the beach.

But therein lies the problem, it was month ago. After Dennis, things got even worse. The Whiting Field BOQ was only working at about 50% capacity as it was before Dennis. Afterwards, it only has enough room for the limited amount of single studs.
